Kenya Police FC Set to Receive Millions Following CAF’s New Payout Announcement
Kenya Police FC is poised to receive a significant amount of money after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced a major increase in participation fees for its interclub competitions. The boost in prize money is expected to benefit the team greatly as they prepare to represent Kenya on the continental stage.
Kenya Police FC, along with Nairobi United FC, will represent the country in the 2025/26 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, respectively. Both clubs are guaranteed to earn at least Ksh12.9 million each simply for qualifying for the tournaments.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe made the announcement during a press conference held on Saturday, July 5, in Rabat, Morocco. He revealed that the participation fees have now doubled — from USD 50,000 last season to USD 100,000 for the upcoming competition. At the current exchange rate, that translates to about Ksh12.9 million.
Motsepe explained that the decision to increase the prize money is part of CAF’s larger effort to support African football clubs financially, especially those that must travel across vast distances to compete. The higher payout is expected to ease the financial burden that teams often face when participating in these high-level continental competitions.
Kenya Police FC recently made history by winning the FKF Premier League for the first time in June 2025. On the other hand, Nairobi United FC, which is partly owned by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, won their first-ever Mozzart Bet Cup. These accomplishments earned them spots in CAF’s prestigious tournaments.
In the previous CAF season, Kenyan champions Gor Mahia received USD 50,000 (around Ksh6.45 million) as participation fees — the first time the initiative had been introduced. Now, the improved financial support is expected to further motivate clubs representing their countries in continental tournaments.
In addition to the CAF payout, Kenya Police FC also received Ksh5 million from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) as a reward for winning the FKF Premier League. This brings their total prize earnings to Ksh17.9 million so far, even before kicking off their continental campaign.
Meanwhile, Nairobi United FC has also done well financially, receiving a total of Ksh14.9 million. This includes Ksh2 million from winning the Mozzart Bet Cup by defeating Gor Mahia in the final.
With their qualification for continental tournaments and the increased financial rewards from CAF, both clubs are now in line to receive even bigger payouts if they advance further in the competitions. The potential earnings could significantly boost the clubs’ finances and allow them to invest more in players, staff, and facilities.
If Kenya Police FC advances to the CAF Champions League group stage, they will receive up to USD 700,000, which is roughly Ksh90.3 million. If they make it to the quarter-finals, the club will earn USD 900,000, approximately Ksh116.1 million.
The financial rewards become even more impressive for semi-finalists, who are awarded USD 1.2 million, equivalent to about Ksh154.8 million. Finally, if Kenya Police FC goes all the way to the final and finishes as runners-up, they will walk away with USD 2 million — around Ksh258 million.
This development not only highlights the growing financial opportunities in African football but also positions Kenya Police FC and Nairobi United FC among the biggest beneficiaries of CAF’s new strategy to uplift club football across the continent.
