Former U.S. President Donald Trump has reignited his long-standing claims that Barack Obama attempted a coup during the 2016 presidential election — and now suggests that Obama could face treason charges.
Trump’s fresh allegations come at a time when public attention has once again shifted to the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, triggering new debates and theories about elite involvement and cover-ups.
While meeting with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at the White House, Trump veered off topic and linked the Epstein case to what he described as an effort by Obama to interfere with the 2016 election results.
These claims were made shortly after the Department of Justice under Trump’s leadership announced plans to further interrogate Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s long-time confidante, who is currently serving a prison sentence.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said that the investigation into Epstein’s powerful connections was still very active, stating, “No lead is off-limits.”
Despite dismissing the Epstein investigation as a “witch hunt,” Trump used the opportunity to attack Obama, saying, “The witch hunt that people should be talking about is how they caught President Obama red-handed.”
He went further, suggesting — without any factual proof — that Obama tried to rig the 2016 election. These explosive allegations were quickly labeled as “outrageous” by Obama’s spokesperson, who outright rejected them.
Interest in Epstein’s dark past and his alleged ties to wealthy and powerful individuals continues to grow, particularly among right-wing groups. Epstein died in a Manhattan jail in 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking.
His death was ruled a suicide, but many conspiracy theories persist, claiming a coordinated cover-up to shield influential figures from exposure.
Although Trump’s administration previously concluded in early July that there was no foul play in Epstein’s death and no so-called “client list” to be released, many of his core supporters believe otherwise.
Many view Trump as the only person willing to challenge the establishment and uncover the truth behind Epstein’s hidden connections.
In an attempt to satisfy this demand for transparency, Trump instructed Attorney General Pam Bondi to pursue the unsealing of grand jury records from Epstein’s past legal cases. Unfortunately for conspiracy theorists, the released information failed to provide the explosive revelations they were hoping for.
Fueling the controversy even more, The Wall Street Journal recently published a bizarre 2003 birthday card allegedly sent by Trump to Epstein.
The card depicted a cartoon of a nude woman, with Trump’s signature stylized as her pubic hair, and included a mysterious message referring to a “wonderful secret.” Trump denied having anything to do with the card and has since filed a lawsuit against the publication for defamation.
While Trump has never faced criminal charges related to Epstein, he was once photographed at parties with the disgraced financier and was considered part of Epstein’s social circle in the past.
Now, as pressure mounts for truth and accountability, Trump seems to be shifting the public’s attention away from himself and toward his political rivals — with Obama as his prime target.
Legal experts have cautioned that Trump’s accusations hold no weight unless he can produce credible evidence. Still, the move is seen as politically strategic, potentially boosting Trump’s popularity among his base as the 2026 midterm elections approach.
His loyal supporters often respond strongly to narratives of betrayal, injustice, and the idea that Trump alone can take on the “deep state.”
In a rare public response, Obama’s spokesperson Patrick Rodenbush dismissed Trump’s comments, calling them “ridiculous and a weak attempt at distraction.” He added, “We usually don’t respond to the nonstop misinformation coming from the Trump White House out of respect for the office of the presidency. But these accusations are so absurd, they demand a response.”
This latest political storm once again reflects how deeply America’s political landscape remains divided — with conspiracy theories, high-profile scandals, and personal rivalries continuing to dominate national conversations.
