Popular Mugithi singer and police officer Samuel Muchoki, widely known as Samidoh, has been ordered by the High Court to surrender his passport after the National Police Service (NPS) accused him of abandoning his duties.
The court, in a ruling delivered on Friday, July 25, also granted Samidoh anticipatory bail of Ksh200,000 and issued orders stopping his arrest, offering him temporary protection from police action over the alleged desertion.
The ruling follows mounting pressure from the police service, which claims Samidoh went missing in action following his recent redeployment to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in Gilgil.
According to official reports, Samidoh was supposed to resume duty on May 27, 2025, after the end of his official leave. However, he never reported back, and his absence has now exceeded ten days, prompting authorities to declare him a deserter as of June 6, 2025.
A formal police report signed by the commandant of the ASTU reads in part:
“Please be informed that No. 247569/2013040010 APC Samuel Ndirangu Muchoki of the Anti-Stock Theft Unit ‘MTD’ Company is on the above subject.
The officer was granted off-duty and was supposed to report back on 27/05/2025, but he failed to do so. Since then, he has not been seen, and efforts to trace him have been futile.”
Despite the controversy, Samidoh is currently in the United States on a musical tour, and he has been very active on social media. He was recently seen performing at the Ngemi Cia Ruraya Kikuyu Cultural Festival in Seattle, Washington, where he entertained a huge crowd.
The event was graced by none other than former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his wife, Pastor Dorcas Gachagua.
In photos and videos posted online, Samidoh appears in high spirits, singing some of his fan-favorite hits and spending time with friends and family abroad. He also performed at another private event hosted by Gachagua during the same U.S. trip.
This development has sparked debate online, with many Kenyans questioning how a serving police officer was able to go on an extended tour without proper clearance — while others argue that his growing music career may be outshining his police responsibilities.
For now, Samidoh remains a free man under court protection, but with his passport surrendered and his name flagged in official police records, his musical journey and law enforcement duties have officially collided — and all eyes are on what happens next.
