Former Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Farida Karoney, has officially returned to the media industry after a long hiatus, taking up a new role at Cape Media Limited as the Growth Strategy Consultant.
In this position, Karoney will be in charge of steering the company’s policy and strategy reforms, with a focus on strengthening the market presence of Cape Media.
This includes helping to shape the future of the company’s brands—TV47, Radio47, and TV47 Digital—so they remain competitive and influential in the fast-changing media landscape.
Karoney is no stranger to the media scene. Before her appointment to the Cabinet, she enjoyed an illustrious career in journalism and media management.
She previously served as the Chief Operating Officer and Editorial Director at Royal Media Services, where she was instrumental in introducing bold reforms that transformed the company into a leading media powerhouse in Kenya.
Her media journey also includes working with other top-tier organizations like Kenya Television Network (KTN), Nation Media Group, and the international broadcaster Al Jazeera, where she held various editorial and leadership roles.
Reflecting on her new role, Karoney expressed her excitement about the opportunity to help grow Cape Media into an even stronger brand. She emphasized the importance of creating long-term strategies to diversify revenue and keep up with evolving media trends.
Cape Media Chairperson Simon Gicharu praised Karoney’s appointment, describing it as a timely and strategic move that would help sustain and grow the success of their broadcast platforms—TV47, Radio47, and their digital arm, TV47 Digital.
During her term as Lands Cabinet Secretary from 2018 to 2022 under former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Karoney spearheaded the digitization of Kenya’s land registry through the National Land Information Management System (NLIMS), commonly known as Ardhisasa.
The platform was created to make land transactions more efficient and transparent while reducing fraud, shortening service timelines, and boosting revenue collection.
Since leaving the Cabinet, Karoney had maintained a relatively quiet public profile. However, she recently made a return to public service when President William Ruto appointed her in August 2024 as the Chairperson of the National Lottery Board, signaling her ongoing influence in national affairs.
