Kapseret Member of Parliament, Oscar Sudi, has come out with bold allegations against Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, claiming that the Nairobi Senator demanded a whopping Ksh300 million to be part of President William Ruto’s broad-based government.
Speaking during a political gathering in Moiben, Uasin Gishu County, on Friday, July 25, Sudi accused Sifuna of trying to undermine the cooperation deal between President Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
According to Sudi, Sifuna is allegedly frustrated and upset because he was excluded from the key negotiations and appointments following the formal endorsement of the broad-based government agreement in March 2025.
While criticizing the ODM Secretary General, Sudi branded him as a “political broker,” accusing him of trying to monetize his political support.
“Let me tell my friend Sifuna that the President and Raila Odinga held direct talks and reached an agreement to work together for the good of the country. Sifuna is only bitter because he was left out of those high-level discussions,” said Sudi.
The lawmaker further alleged that Sifuna approached government officials with a request for Ksh300 million, hoping to be included in the power-sharing arrangement. “You were not part of the deal-making team because there was no such panel.
It was simply Raila and the President sitting down and agreeing. I personally know you asked for Ksh300 million,” Sudi boldly stated.
Sudi insisted that despite Sifuna’s supposed demands, the Kenya Kwanza government did not bow to pressure or accept any backdoor deals. He emphasized that the administration remains focused on its development agenda, including improving access to healthcare, education, and other critical services for ordinary Kenyans.
“The government is not in the business of paying people without justification. Let Sifuna keep making noise. We have serious work to do for the people of Kenya,” Sudi added.
During the event, Sudi also expressed strong support for the broad-based government initiative, arguing that Raila Odinga’s decision to work with President Ruto was driven by a genuine desire to help the country move forward and address pressing issues affecting the population.
Sudi’s comments came just days after Sifuna publicly criticized the Kenya Kwanza government. During an appearance on Citizen TV, the Nairobi Senator warned that ODM’s continued cooperation with the ruling coalition could harm the party’s future political prospects.
“If we stay too close to this government until the next election in 2027 without preparing our own political ground, we may lose the trust of the people. We’ll have no good explanation for why we aligned ourselves with Ruto for so long,” Sifuna cautioned during the televised interview.
Political analysts are now speculating that Sifuna’s recent criticisms might be part of a wider strategy by Raila Odinga to maintain a balancing act—keeping ODM connected to the opposition’s role while still reaping benefits from its working relationship with the current administration.
