Governor Natembeya Dismisses CS Ambitions After Meeting Kipchumba Murkomen

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has firmly denied rumors suggesting he is eyeing a Cabinet Secretary position in the Kenya Kwanza administration.

This comes after his recent meeting with Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, which sparked public speculation about his political intentions.

Addressing the matter on Tuesday, Natembeya made it clear that the meeting with CS Murkomen was simply procedural and had nothing to do with personal political ambition.

He emphasized that he is focused on serving the people of Trans Nzoia County and has no interest in joining the Cabinet.

“I have no business looking for a job in government. I’m already serving in an important role as an elected governor.

Even if I was offered a CS position, it would add no value to me. I previously worked in such positions, and I left that behind to focus on my current responsibility — serving the people who voted for me,” he said.

Speculation had intensified after Governor Natembeya warmly received CS Murkomen at his office, despite their differing political ideologies. The gesture led to talk that Natembeya could be softening his stance towards the Kenya Kwanza government or even planning to defect.

However, Natembeya dismissed such assumptions, clarifying that receiving Murkomen was merely in line with official government protocol.

“Whenever a high-ranking national government official visits a county, it’s standard for them to pay a courtesy call to the Governor’s Office. That’s exactly what happened. I welcomed CS Murkomen in my capacity as the sitting governor, not as a political ally,” he explained.

Governor Natembeya insisted that he is fully committed to his opposition role and will continue to hold the government accountable despite the many challenges, including political pressure, public criticism, and attempts to discredit his leadership.

During his tour of Trans Nzoia, CS Murkomen held discussions with local security teams and also visited the Assistant County Commissioner’s (ACC) Central Division offices in Saboti Sub-County to inspect ongoing registration services.

He was accompanied by top government officials including Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service Gilbert Masengeli, Regional Police Commander Jasper Ombati, and Regional AP Commander John Amadadi.

The visit came just a few days after Natembeya officially resumed duties at his Kitale headquarters on July 21, following the lapse of a two-month ban issued earlier by a Nairobi court.

Governor Natembeya’s presence at public engagements, including a past appearance in Kisumu alongside politician George Wajackoyah on May 26, has only strengthened his reputation as an active figure in opposition politics, determined to serve his constituents without political compromise.
