UDA Aspirant for Malava Constituency Dies After Collapsing at Event
Former Bungoma High School principal and UDA aspirant for the Malava Constituency Enock Andanje has tragically passed away.
Andanje died on Friday morning in Kakamega County after collapsing while attending a widows’ empowerment forum led by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
According to reports, he collapsed shortly after arriving at the event and was rushed to hospital, but attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
Eyewitnesses said he had just alighted from his car when he began experiencing difficulty, causing nearby individuals to quickly come to his aid.
Prime CS Mudavadi confirmed the incident when he paused the event to break the sad news to those attending.
“While we were seated here, I received news that one of us, Enock Andanje, has died,” Mudavadi told the gathering.
The sudden death of Andanje triggered shock and disbelief among those present. Many people, including residents and supporters, later took to social media to mourn him and share emotional tributes to the teacher-turned-politician.
The exact cause of his death has not yet been determined.
Andanje was among the aspirants eyeing the UDA party ticket in preparation for the upcoming party primaries ahead of the Malava Constituency by-election.
After taking early retirement from his position as a Chief Principal, he had expressed strong ambition to represent Malava Constituency following the death of former MP Malulu Injendi in February this year.
Since declaring his bid, Andanje had been actively attending various public functions in the area, including the event presided over by Mudavadi where he collapsed.
His death comes just a week after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officially announced that all by-elections will take place on November 27 this year.
In a gazette notice issued on Friday, August 8, IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon published the list of wards, constituencies, and counties where seats remain vacant and scheduled for elections.
The news of Andanje’s sudden demise has cast a dark cloud over the political atmosphere in Malava, with many saying his passing is a major blow to the community and those who supported his vision.
