NIS Boss Noordin Haji Mourns Death of His Uncle
The National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General, Noordin Haji, is in mourning following the passing of his uncle, Mohamud Yusuf Haji.
Mohamud is reported to have died in Mombasa, and his death was confirmed on Sunday, August 17, by both his brother Yusuf Haji and Garissa County Assembly Speaker Abdi Idle Gure.
At the time of the announcement, the exact cause of his death had not been made public.
Yusuf Haji, deeply saddened, said:
“I was informed a few hours ago that my older brother, Mohamud Yussuf Haji, passed in Mombasa.”
In a heartfelt message, Garissa Speaker Abdi Idle Gure paid tribute to the late Haji, describing him as a humble, respectful, and hardworking businessman who lived a life full of dignity. He also pointed out that Mohamud was the uncle to Garissa Senator Abdul Haji.
The Speaker highlighted that the late Mohamud was not only a respected family man but also a highly regarded figure in the wider Garissa community. His generosity, calm personality, and humble character touched many.
“The late Mzee Mohamud was a humble and hardworking businessman who carried himself with dignity and earned the respect of all who knew him,” the Speaker said.
He went on to stress that the loss is not just personal to the family but a huge blow to the entire Garissa County.
“His passing is not only a great loss to his family, but also to the wider Garissa community, who admired him for his humility and calm demeanor,” he added.
Community in Mourning
Residents of Garissa have begun sending their condolences, describing the late Mohamud as a man who helped many people and contributed to social development in silent but impactful ways.
Those who knew him say he was always ready to support youth initiatives, local business ventures, and community-building efforts.
His death comes at a time when the Haji family holds significant positions in public service, and many leaders from across the country are also expected to send their condolences.
Family, friends, and residents of Garissa will be gathering to pay their respects, and burial arrangements are expected to follow Islamic traditions.
