Narok County Governor Patrick Ole Ntuntu has announced a significant reshuffle affecting three major county directorates as part of his efforts to enhance service delivery and bring about better management in county operations.
In a gazette notice dated Friday, August 15, the governor stated that the changes involve the directorates of Culture, Cooperatives Development, and Trade, which have now been moved to different departments.
Under the new changes:
- The Directorate of Culture has been shifted from the Department of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports, Culture and Social Services to the Department of Trade, Cooperative Development, Tourism and Wildlife.
- The Directorate of Co-operatives Development has been transferred from the Department of Trade, Co-operative Development, Tourism and Wildlife and placed under the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries.
- The Directorate of Trade has been moved from the Department of Trade, Co-operative Development, Tourism and Wildlife to the Department of Finance and Economic Planning.
Governor Ntuntu noted that these changes officially took effect on July 2 and will remain in force until a new directive is issued.
He explained that the aim of this reorganization is to improve service delivery, boost efficiency, and align the functions of each directorate with the county’s evolving priorities such as youth empowerment, environmental protection, digitalization, and supporting the livelihoods of pastoral communities.
The notice further stated that the county secretary, working hand in hand with the County Public Service Board, will be responsible for overseeing the smooth transition and implementation of the changes.
Additionally, the governor instructed that all three directorates must begin reporting to their respective chief officers, who will then report to the County Executive Committee Members (CECMs). The directorates are also required to revise their mandates to align with the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) and sector-specific plans and objectives.
The executive notice reads: “The Governor of Narok County, in exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution and National legislations, issues this Executive Order No. 1 of 2025 on the Reorganisation of County Directorates.”
It further directs that staff redeployments and allocation of resources should follow proper human resource policies and guidelines as part of the reorganization.
This reshuffle marks one of Governor Ntuntu’s bold steps toward reshaping county governance structures to better serve the people of Narok and ensure that each directorate contributes effectively to the county’s development goals.
