A family in Pipeline, Nairobi, has been left in deep mourning following the tragic death of 27-year-old Susan Nabwire, who was allegedly killed by her husband, a former police officer.

The horrifying incident, which occurred on the night of August 13, has shocked neighbors and relatives alike. Nabwire, a young mother of a one-year-old child, lost her life after a domestic confrontation with her 44-year-old husband turned violent.

The same night, the man is also accused of turning on their house help and subjecting her to a brutal sexual assault.

Tension Before the Attack

According to Nabwire’s mother, the suspect returned home that evening in an angry and suspicious mood. He reportedly accused his wife of being unfaithful and demanded to access her personal information. He insisted on having her phone, her social media and mobile money passwords, as well as the PIN to her M-Pesa account.

When Susan resisted and refused to give in to his demands, the man became more aggressive. The mother narrated that the suspect bizarrely removed his clothes, took a photo of himself, and demanded that his wife undress and pose for another photo with him.

This disturbing act showed signs of growing instability and tension in the household.

The Brutal Murder

Events escalated later in the night, around 3:00 am, when the house help recounted hearing the couple still arguing. The man, according to her testimony, went into the bathroom before returning with an axe. In a horrifying turn of events, he attacked Susan viciously.

The suspect allegedly struck his wife on the neck and head with the axe, leaving her gravely wounded. Despite Susan’s desperate pleas for mercy, he did not stop.

Witness accounts reveal that he then used a rope to strangle her and later picked up a knife, stabbing her in the eyes while uttering chilling threats, insisting he would kill her while she was still conscious.

After strangling her, the man shoved Susan’s lifeless body under the bed, attempting to conceal it.

Attack on the House Help

Following Susan’s murder, the suspect then turned to the house help. She recalled that he struck her with the axe, leaving her with a severe cut on the neck that caused her to collapse on the floor. Despite her pleas for her life, he allegedly went ahead and sexually assaulted her, adding to the horror of the night.

The attacker locked the traumatized house help and the toddler inside the house with Susan’s body before fleeing. He also took away the family’s mobile phones, perhaps in an attempt to delay communication with the outside world.

Police Intervention and Arrest

When police officers later arrived at the scene, they were forced to break down the door. Susan’s body was retrieved and taken to Mama Lucy Hospital mortuary, where it remains preserved as investigations continue.

The fugitive ex-police officer was eventually tracked down and arrested on Saturday, August 23, ten days after the incident. He is currently being detained at Embakasi Police Station, awaiting arraignment in court to face charges related to the murder of his wife and the assault on the house help.

Community in Shock

The killing has left residents of Pipeline shaken, with many condemning the violent act and calling for justice for Susan and protection for survivors of domestic abuse. Family members described Susan as a young woman full of life whose future was cut short in the most painful way.
