Uhuru Calls Special Jubilee Meeting That Could Reshape the Party
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced that the Jubilee Party is preparing for a major shake-up, with its leadership expected to make crucial decisions during an upcoming National Delegates Conference (NDC).
In an official notice dated September 3, Uhuru, who also serves as the party leader, revealed that the special NDC will take place on September 26, 2025, at the Jockey Club, Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi, starting from 8 a.m.
The meeting will be held under the party’s guiding slogan, “Mbele Pamoja” (Forward Together), as leaders seek to reposition Jubilee in Kenya’s shifting political landscape.
This latest communication follows an earlier notice issued on August 5, which had urged members to prepare for a special sitting. “Further to our notice of a Special National Delegates Convention dated August 5, 2025, and pursuant to Articles 8.1 and 10.1 of the Jubilee Party Constitution, a notice is hereby issued for a Special National Delegates Convention to be held at the Jockey Club, Ngong Racecourse, Nairobi, Kenya, on September 26, 2025,” the official statement signed by the former president read in part.
According to Uhuru, the key agenda items during the meeting will include receiving a detailed report from the National Executive Committee (NEC).
Delegates will also review, amend, and approve changes to the party’s constitution, examine the structure of its organs, and deliberate on new policies and programmes aimed at revitalizing Jubilee.
In addition, the convention will provide a platform to address any other urgent issues considered vital for the party’s survival and relevance in the coming years.
This gathering comes only weeks after Uhuru chaired a virtual NEC session — the first such meeting since the High Court reinstated his leadership team through a ruling that was later confirmed in a government gazette notice.
The court decision restored the positions of Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni and Vice-Chairperson David Murathe, putting an end to a long-running leadership tussle with a rival faction led by Kanini Kega and nominated MP Sabina Chege.
The upcoming NDC is expected to strengthen Jubilee’s unity and reaffirm its position in the country’s politics. Observers believe the meeting could also set the stage for new political alliances as parties across the country begin reorganizing themselves ahead of the next general election.
Political analysts argue that the September 26 conference will not only determine Jubilee’s internal direction but may also influence the broader political scene, as speculation grows that Uhuru and his team could seek to partner with other parties that share Jubilee’s ideology and agenda.
The decisions made during this convention are therefore expected to draw close attention from both allies and rivals across the political divide.
