Police Officer Arrested After Shooting Dead Two Boda Boda Riders
A police officer is in custody after allegedly shooting and killing two boda boda riders in a shocking case of road rage that turned deadly.
The incident happened on Sunday morning, leaving families and colleagues of the riders in grief and sparking fresh concerns over police conduct and public safety.
According to eyewitness accounts, the officer was driving an Audi when he hit a motorbike carrying a rider and a passenger. The collision was described as a rear-end accident, with the rider and his passenger suffering only minor injuries.
Instead of stopping to address the matter, the officer reportedly attempted to speed away from the scene.
His escape was cut short after he got stuck in light traffic, which gave other boda boda operators the chance to catch up with him.
Once they surrounded the car, the angry riders demanded accountability and pressed the officer to explain why he tried to flee after causing the accident. What began as a heated exchange quickly escalated into a tense standoff as more operators arrived to support their colleagues.
Witnesses said the officer then drew his firearm in the middle of the confrontation. Shockingly, he fired at the crowd, killing two riders who had not even been directly involved in the accident. “The rider who was hit from behind only sustained minor injuries, but when other operators confronted the driver, he pulled out a gun. He ended up shooting two other riders who had nothing to do with the crash,” one eyewitness narrated.
The situation grew worse when word spread among other boda boda operators. Enraged by the officer’s actions, they launched a retaliatory attack on his vehicle.
Using stones, sticks, and later fire, the group completely destroyed the Audi, setting it ablaze until it was reduced to a shell.
Photos and videos captured by Newshub.co.ke showed the car engulfed in flames as a large crowd gathered to watch.
This tragic case has added to growing tension between boda boda operators and motorists. Notably, it is the second case in just a few days where riders have torched a vehicle after an accident involving one of their own.
Last week, a Super Metro matatu was set on fire along Thika Road after it knocked down a rider, killing him instantly.
The latest incident has not only left two families mourning the sudden loss of their loved ones but has also raised fresh questions about police discipline, road safety, and the escalating confrontations between boda boda riders and other road users.
