Breaking: DPP Ingonga Lands International Role

DPP Ingonga Earns Prestigious International Role

Kenya’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Renson Ingonga, has secured a new international position after being elected as a Supernumerary Member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP).

His election took place on Tuesday during the association’s Annual General Meeting held in Singapore.

The role of a Supernumerary Member is reserved for additional members who are brought into the Executive Committee to provide extra expertise and ensure wider regional representation.

This means Ingonga will now have the opportunity to contribute Kenya’s and Africa’s perspective to global discussions on justice and prosecutorial work.

According to a statement released by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Ingonga’s election was unanimous, demonstrating the confidence and respect he enjoys among his international peers.

“The Director of Public Prosecutions, Renson M. Ingonga, CBS, OGW, has been unanimously elected as a Supernumerary Member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP),” read part of the ODPP’s announcement.

The statement added that the election was conducted on 9th September 2025 during the IAP’s 30th Annual Conference and General Meeting in Singapore.

This new recognition comes just two months after Ingonga was also appointed President of the Africa Association of Prosecutors (APA) at the body’s 17th Annual Conference and General Meeting in Marrakesh, Morocco, in July 2024. His back-to-back international appointments highlight the growing trust placed in Kenya’s top prosecutor at both continental and global levels.

In his acceptance speech, Ingonga expressed gratitude and described the opportunity as both humbling and challenging. He emphasized that prosecutors worldwide hold a central responsibility in delivering justice, making fairness possible, and upholding the rule of law.

He further noted that platforms like the IAP allow prosecutors from different countries to learn from one another, adopt best practices, and enhance professionalism.

“I am humbled by this election and the responsibility that comes with it,” Ingonga said.
“Prosecutors play a critical role in the fair administration of justice, and this opportunity allows us to exchange experiences, embrace best practices, and discharge our mandate with integrity, professionalism, and firmness.”

The ODPP described his election as historic, calling it not only a milestone for Kenya but also for Africa as a whole.

The office explained that the appointment was further proof of Africa’s increasing influence in international justice and its role in shaping prosecutorial standards across the world.

“This will provide a unique platform to enhance cooperation, address emerging challenges, and strengthen prosecutorial standards across jurisdictions,” the ODPP said.

This recognition also builds on Kenya’s recent commitment to international cooperation in the justice sector. In July this year, the country hosted the 23rd Commonwealth Heads of Prosecuting Agencies Conference (HOPAC) in Mombasa, bringing together prosecutors from across the Commonwealth to share experiences and strategies.

Ingonga’s rise onto the international stage signals Kenya’s growing voice in global justice conversations. It also reaffirms the country’s willingness to contribute to tackling legal challenges that cut across borders, from emerging crimes to strengthening the rule of law worldwide.
