Head-On Collision at Kijabe Junction Leaves Passengers Trapped in Wreckage

A serious road accident was reported at Kijabe Junction on the busy Nairobi–Nakuru Highway, leaving several people injured after two vehicles collided head-on.

Eyewitness footage and images obtained by Kenyans.co.ke show the accident involved a private car and a truck. The violent impact left both vehicles completely wrecked at the front, with passengers trapped inside the twisted metal.

Locals and passing motorists quickly rushed to the scene and turned into rescuers. In desperate attempts to free those stuck inside, they were seen using axes and other makeshift tools to cut through the wreckage.

Due to the extensive damage, a lorry was eventually used to pull apart the two vehicles so that rescue efforts could continue.

The exact number of passengers in both vehicles has not yet been established. At the time this report was filed, no police officers or emergency response teams had arrived at the scene, forcing residents to handle the rescue operations on their own.

This crash adds to the growing list of road accidents that have shaken the country in recent months, highlighting concerns over road safety.

Just a day earlier, on September 9, a deadly accident claimed one life and left several others injured along Jogoo Road in Nairobi, near Citam Buruburu Church. Reports indicated that the bus involved was speeding when the driver lost control, causing it to veer off the road.

The crash left one person, believed to be the bus conductor, dead on the spot after sustaining severe head and limb injuries. Passengers on board were left injured, some critically, and were rushed to nearby hospitals.

Witnesses said the bus was traveling from the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) toward Donholm when the accident happened. Police later arrived at the scene to help with rescue operations and to begin investigations into what caused the accident.

Authorities are expected to investigate the Kijabe Junction crash as well, once emergency teams reach the scene.

Meanwhile, the two incidents serve as another grim reminder of the dangers on Kenya’s roads and the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and improved emergency response.
