Kenya has strongly condemned Israel following the September 9 airstrike in Doha, Qatar, which left several people dead and many others injured.
The bombing, which Israel admitted was targeting senior Hamas leaders, has been described by Nairobi as a serious violation of international law and Qatar’s sovereignty.
In a firm statement released on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs said the incident was not only an attack on a sovereign state but also a direct threat to regional stability and global peace.
“The Government of the Republic of Kenya notes with deep concern the attack on a building in the State of Qatar that caused loss of life, injuries, and destruction of property on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
On its own admission, the State of Israel carried out this bombing,” the ministry stated.
Kenya went further to accuse Israel of breaching the United Nations 1970 Declaration on Principles of International Law, which calls for friendly relations, respect for sovereignty, and peaceful cooperation among nations.
Officials in Nairobi warned that unilateral military actions of this nature risk escalating conflicts that already threaten to spiral out of control in the Middle East.
First-Ever Israeli Strike on Qatar
Tuesday’s assault marked the first time Israel has ever attacked Qatar, a country that has played a key role in mediating ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed responsibility for the operation, sparking outrage and alarm across the international community.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately denounced the attack as a “cowardly act”, while its Interior Ministry confirmed that six people were killed, including one of its internal security officers.
Kenya Calls for Diplomacy, Not Aggression
Kenya urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid actions that could trigger further violence in an already fragile region.
The government stressed that lasting peace can only be achieved through dialogue, diplomacy, and respect for international law, not through reckless military strikes.
“Sustainable peace is built on respect for sovereignty, mutual understanding, and international cooperation. It cannot be won on the battlefield,” the ministry’s statement emphasised.
Nairobi also joined other governments in calling for the international community to protect the principle of state sovereignty and encourage peaceful coexistence among nations.
Global Backlash Against Israel
Kenya’s condemnation came alongside a wave of criticism from other countries, including the United States, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom, all of which expressed solidarity with Qatar.
The European Union also raised concern, warning against any further escalation in Gaza or beyond, stressing that renewed instability would harm both the region and the wider international community.
This latest bombing has not only deepened tensions between Israel and Qatar but also complicated ongoing mediation efforts, raising fears of an even wider confrontation if diplomatic efforts fail.
