A postmortem has confirmed that prominent Nairobi lawyer, Kyalo Mbobu, died after suffering multiple gunshot wounds that led to massive bleeding and fatal injuries.
Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor revealed on Thursday, September 11, that Mbobu had been shot eight times in the brutal attack that has left the nation in shock.
According to Dr. Oduor, pathologists were able to recover two bullets lodged inside Mbobu’s body. Interestingly, this finding comes even as police earlier disclosed that some spent cartridges were missing from the lawyer’s vehicle, raising questions about the shooting.
The lawyer met his tragic end on the night of Tuesday, September 9, when unknown gunmen sprayed his car with bullets in a drive-by shooting as he drove home through the Galleria Brookside area in Karen.
Reports indicate that the incident unfolded during a heavy traffic jam along Magadi Road, giving the attackers the perfect opportunity to strike.
Police reports later showed that Mbobu was shot five times in the head, which killed him instantly.
Just hours before his death, Mbobu is said to have attended a meeting with unidentified individuals at a Nairobi hotel.
Afterward, he drove to another meeting in the Central Business District (CBD) before heading towards his residence via Lang’ata Road — a journey that ended tragically.
His death has since triggered widespread outrage, especially from the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), which condemned the attack in the strongest terms possible.
LSK President Faith Odhiambo described the killing as a cold-blooded and well-planned assassination, warning that such incidents highlight the growing risks and hostile environment facing lawyers in the country.
Mbobu’s family, devastated by the loss, echoed these concerns while demanding swift justice. They described him as the backbone of their family of 12 siblings, emphasizing that his murder has left a huge gap that will be difficult to fill.
In response, the government has assured Kenyans that investigations are moving forward.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen confirmed that detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have already identified several persons of interest linked to the case. These individuals are currently being interrogated, while more suspects are being traced.
Murkomen further disclosed that witnesses at the scene and others with valuable information have already come forward to help the detectives piece together what transpired that evening.
“We have been working closely with the DCI since this incident occurred, and I can confirm there is progress.
Some persons of interest have been identified and are being interrogated, while many more will be pursued. We are grateful to the eyewitnesses who have already spoken up and others who continue to provide information,” Murkomen stated.
The CS also urged members of the public with any leads to report to the nearest police station, promising a speedy and thorough probe that will bring the killers to justice.
