Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch’s Father Dies After 15-Year Battle with Cancer

Nairobi – The ODM fraternity is mourning the death of Mzee Charles Anthony Ondiek, the father of Mathare Member of Parliament Anthony Oluoch.

The sad news was shared on Wednesday, September 24, by ODM party leader Raila Odinga, who described the late Ondiek as a man of resilience and strength.

Cause of Death

In his heartfelt condolence message, Raila revealed that Ondiek passed away after bravely fighting cancer for close to 15 years.

The former prime minister noted that despite the long struggle, Ondiek remained strong and was a source of inspiration to his family and community.

“It is with great sorrow that I have learned of the passing of your beloved father, Mzee Charles Anthony Ondiek, following a courageous 15-year battle with cancer.

I know this is an incredibly painful loss to your family, and I pray that you may find strength and comfort to endure this heartbreaking moment,” Raila’s condolence message read in part.

Raila Odinga’s Tribute

Beyond offering condolences to the family, Raila took time to reflect on his personal connection with the late Ondiek. He recalled their days working together in the 1970s at the Kenya Bureau of Standards, where Ondiek left a lasting impression through his work ethic and dedication.

“I knew Mzee well, having worked with him at the Kenya Bureau of Standards in the 1970s. Kanyakwar has indeed lost a towering pillar of the community, just as Kisumu County at large has lost a great son,” Raila added.

The ODM leader emphasized that Ondiek’s death was not only a personal loss to his family but also a huge blow to the wider community, which looked up to him as a leader and mentor.

He urged the family to take pride in the life Ondiek lived and the legacy he left behind.

A Loss Felt Beyond Family

Mzee Charles Anthony Ondiek is remembered as a man who contributed greatly to his community while raising a family that continues to serve the nation.

His passing has been described as a moment of grief not only for his relatives but also for political allies, friends, and the ODM fraternity, where his son, Anthony Oluoch, has established himself as a key figure and close ally of Raila Odinga.

Leaders and residents from Kisumu County, where Ondiek hailed from, have also joined in mourning, praising his resilience during his long illness and celebrating the impact he had on society.
