Gunman Fires Shots at Eastleigh’s Yare Towers, Escapes in Private Vehicle – Panic Grips Business Hub
There was panic and confusion on Tuesday evening in Eastleigh, one of Nairobi’s busiest commercial areas, after a man opened fire outside Yare Towers before fleeing the scene.
According to videos obtained by Newshub.co.ke, the man was seen drawing a pistol and firing at least three gunshots before quickly getting into a waiting vehicle and speeding off.
The situation quickly turned chaotic, with people seen running for their lives in fear. Several businesses operating around the area were forced to close down immediately as tension and uncertainty filled the air.
Eyewitnesses say the man fired three bullets, one of which is believed to have struck a mobile phone that was on display in one of the shops at the mall. Luckily, no injuries had been reported at the time of publishing this article.
Several businesses are also believed to have lost property, while others reported damage due to the stampede that broke out moments after the shooting.
People were seen shouting and scattering in all directions as the terrifying scene unfolded.
Moments before the shooting, footage and images reviewed by Newshub.co.ke showed the man standing near a white Land Cruiser while using his phone.
Around him, a small crowd had formed, and some individuals could be heard encouraging him to pull out his weapon.
“Draw your gun, draw it,” several voices could be heard shouting in the background of a video that lasted over a minute.
The man appeared calm at first, but as the voices grew louder, he suddenly drew his pistol and fired into the air while holding onto the side of the vehicle.
It is still unclear whether there had been a prior confrontation between him and the crowd or what led to the tension that triggered the incident.
It also remains a mystery how those surrounding him knew that he was carrying a firearm on his waist.
After the gunshots, the man jumped into the waiting Land Cruiser and was driven away. He was reportedly accompanied by several unknown individuals who also entered the vehicle before it left the scene at high speed.
Detectives from the Eastleigh North Police Station have since launched investigations to establish the motive behind the dramatic incident and identify the gunman and his accomplices.
They are reviewing the video footage and speaking to witnesses to piece together the full events leading up to the shooting.
So far, authorities have not issued any official statement regarding the attack, which has raised more concern among locals.
Eastleigh is a high-security zone where the government has made significant investments in surveillance and intelligence operations to prevent such incidents.
The shooting has now brought fresh questions about public safety and the effectiveness of security measures in the area.
