Police in Bungoma County were forced to intervene and rescue a 27-year-old man from mob justice after he was allegedly caught sexually abusing a mentally challenged woman.
The shocking incident reportedly took place on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, within the compound of a Member of the County Assembly (MCA). A sister to the MCA, who had gone to the homestead to collect some personal belongings, is said to have walked in on the suspect committing the act.
Startled by what she witnessed, she immediately raised an alarm, attracting neighbours who rushed to the scene. The enraged residents pounced on the suspect, beating him up before the police could arrive.
Both Suspect and Victim Have Learning Difficulties
According to the police report, both the victim (34 years old) and the suspect are said to be mentally challenged, and the man had allegedly been living within the MCA’s compound for some time.
Police officers, upon arriving at the scene, rescued the man from the mob and took him to a local hospital for treatment, where he was examined before being placed in custody. The victim was also taken to hospital for medical attention and support.
“She raised an alarm, prompting members of the public to respond and subject the assailant to mob justice, resulting in minor injuries. It was later confirmed by neighbours that both parties have learning difficulties,” the police statement read.
Investigations Underway
Authorities have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and the suspect will face legal consequences once the probe is completed. Police have also urged the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands, even in sensitive matters, and instead allow due legal process to take its course.
