JCM Bishop Ben Kamau, popularly known as Muthee Kiengei, has announced that he will hand over an ambulance he purchased in June to support the modern hospital that Kenyan TikTokers are planning to build.
The idea of setting up the hospital gained strong public support after the widely shared story of 17-year-old TikToker “Kaluma Boy,” who used the platform to show the daily struggles of caring for his father, who suffered a stroke.
On Sunday, September 28, hundreds of Kenyans, including TikTok creators, the Nduthi community, and well-wishers, travelled to Othaya in Nyeri County to meet the teenager and support his ailing father in person.
Speaking on Sunday, October 5, during a Thanksgiving Service held in honour of Kaluma Boy, Bishop Kiengei revealed that the ambulance—already used to transport the boy’s father—will officially become the first asset of the TikTok community hospital.
“Some of the positive things we are seeing in Kenya today are happening because a young person decided to use their phone in the right way. I want to thank all the Kenyan TikTokers who are here. May God bless you because of Kaluma Boy,” Kiengei said.
“We sent our ambulance to assist his father, and that ambulance will now be the first asset of the hospital you are building. For those who had asked why I bought that ambulance, they have now seen its purpose,” he added.
After word spread about the hospital initiative, Dennis Itumbi, the Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Coordination, fully endorsed the plan. He said the idea aligns with the government’s goals of expanding access to affordable and quality healthcare.
“That is a brilliant idea. Kenyans have built hospitals in this country through offerings; that is why many faith-based hospitals exist. President Ruto is also supervising the construction of 70 hospitals by the KDF,” Itumbi said.
“So if TikTokers can come together and build another hospital, then it is brilliant. Such initiatives are encouraged, and that is a very smart move,” he added.
Kiengei explained that Kaluma Boy’s story clearly shows how young people using social media creatively and responsibly can influence real change and contribute to Kenya’s social and economic development.
During the same Thanksgiving event, Kiengei also announced that Kaluma Boy has been awarded a full scholarship to the East African University. He will pursue a course in Sales and Marketing with a special focus on digital marketing.
“Dr Christopher Mutembei, the Vice Chancellor of the East African University, has confirmed this morning that Kaluma Boy has received a full scholarship. He will study Sales and Marketing to sharpen his digital marketing skills,” Kiengei told the congregation.
The moment marked another milestone in the growing movement of content creators using digital platforms to drive humanitarian action and community projects across the country.
