The Kenya Meteorological Department has released a new weather forecast, advising Kenyans in various parts of the country to prepare for continued rainfall and showers over the next five days.
In its weekly update, the department mentioned that several major towns—including Kisumu, Nairobi, Mombasa, Machakos, Nakuru, and Lodwar—will experience rainfall from Tuesday, November 4, to Saturday, November 8. The weatherman urged residents to stay alert and plan their daily activities with the changing weather in mind.
According to the forecast, counties in the central and eastern highlands such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi will experience frequent rains and showers both during the day and at night.
However, brief sunny intervals might appear on Wednesday and Thursday mornings, while Tuesday and Wednesday nights are expected to remain cloudy. The maximum temperatures in these areas could rise to 30°C, while the lowest temperatures could drop to around 9°C.
Along the Coastal region, counties like Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and Tana River are forecasted to experience showers throughout most of the week, both day and night. The weatherman noted that these areas will remain humid, with maximum temperatures of up to 32°C and minimum temperatures of about 22°C.
In the western and Rift Valley regions—including Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot—residents should expect a mix of sunshine and rain.
The forecast indicates that Tuesday to Thursday mornings will likely have sunny intervals in some places, but rains and thunderstorms are expected to dominate the rest of the week, both during the day and night. In these counties, temperatures are expected to range between 9°C at night and 30°C during the day.
For the eastern and southern regions, including Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and the inland areas of Tana River County, the weather will start off with sunny and cloudy conditions on Tuesday.
Sunny mornings will continue into Wednesday and Thursday, but from the middle of the week onwards, these counties are expected to experience showers during both day and night. Temperatures here are expected to peak at 33°C, with the lowest at around 14°C.
The northern parts of Kenya, specifically Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties, are expected to experience rain in most parts of the week, except on Thursday, when the skies will remain sunny throughout the day.
The weatherman added that these counties will experience some of the highest temperatures in the country, with maximums reaching up to 38°C and minimums around 17°C.
In Turkana and Samburu, residents can expect sunny and dry conditions for most of the week until Thursday, after which light showers may appear on Friday and Saturday.
The forecast shows that daytime temperatures in these counties could reach 36°C, while nighttime temperatures may drop to around 11°C.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has advised Kenyans to remain alert, especially in flood-prone and low-lying areas, as rainfall continues across the country.
Motorists are also urged to drive carefully due to slippery roads and reduced visibility in some regions.
The department further encouraged farmers to take advantage of the rainfall to plan for planting and other agricultural activities as the short rain season progresses.
