Kuria Claims ‘Powerful Offices’ Pushed Aladwa to Reject Running Mate Offer
Chama Cha Kazi party leader Moses Kuria has spoken out after Makadara MP George Aladwa publicly rejected his offer to be his running mate in the 2027 Nairobi gubernatorial race.
According to Kuria, Aladwa’s sudden change of heart was not voluntary but came after he was allegedly pressured by powerful government offices.
Kuria shared his frustration in a detailed social media post on 3rd December 2025, saying he was disappointed by how the situation unfolded.
He alleged that senior officials summoned the Makadara MP and instructed him to abandon the arrangement he had supposedly agreed to with Kuria and the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader.
“George Aladwa was summoned last evening by holders of extremely powerful offices and ordered to denounce our agreement on the Nairobi Governor ticket. I respect his decision,” Kuria wrote.
In his statement, the former Cabinet Secretary and presidential adviser urged those working against the proposed Kuria–Aladwa ticket to calm down, adding that his intention is to rescue what he described as a “collapsing city.”
Kuria stressed that while he is committed to running for Nairobi governor, it is not a matter of life and death.
“I want to tell those forces to relax. I want to be Governor of Nairobi to save this collapsing city. But it’s not a life and death affair for me,” he added.
This political drama began on November 30, 2025, when Kuria posted a campaign poster presenting George Aladwa as his running mate in the upcoming general elections.
The announcement created excitement and speculation about a possible partnership between the Chama Cha Kazi party and the ODM party.
However, the alliance appeared to fall apart almost instantly. On 2nd December 2025, Aladwa publicly dismissed the claim, insisting that he would not serve as Kuria’s deputy.
Instead, he firmly stated that he would be contesting the Nairobi governor seat under the ODM party ticket in 2027.
“I have said that I will not be Moses Kuria’s deputy. I will be vying for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat under the ODM party in 2027,” Aladwa declared.
Despite the public rejection, Kuria maintained that he respects Aladwa’s choice. He also suggested that the intervention of the so-called “powerful forces” had unintentionally exposed their political plans ahead of the 2027 elections.
Kuria believes this revelation will serve as motivation in his mission to unseat the current Nairobi Governor, Johnson Sakaja.
With the political landscape in Nairobi heating up early, Kuria’s remarks have added more tension and speculation about alliances, influence, and the behind-the-scenes power struggles shaping the 2027 race.
