The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) received FBI Director Christopher Wray for a courtesy visit at the Integrity Centre in Nairobi on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.
The visit aimed to bolster the long-standing collaboration between the EACC and the FBI and explore new initiatives to enhance law enforcement effectiveness.
The FBI delegation, accompanied by officials from the American Embassy in Nairobi, engaged in discussions with EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak, focusing on various collaborative efforts.
These efforts include tackling transnational corruption and economic crimes, as well as providing support to the EACC through advanced training and the acquisition of modern investigative tools and equipment.
One of the key topics of discussion was the enhancement of information exchange to aid in the tracing and recovery of assets acquired through corruption and hidden abroad. FBI Director Wray underscored his commitment to fortifying the partnership and supporting EACC’s mission to uphold the rule of law and restore public trust in institutions.
“I had a productive discussion with EACC CEO Mbarak and his team about their crucial work in combating corruption and fostering accountability,” Wray stated.
“The FBI remains committed to strengthening our partnership and supporting the EACC in its efforts to maintain the rule of law and enhance public confidence in our institutions.”
EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak expressed gratitude for the technical assistance provided by the FBI, which has significantly improved the Commission’s investigative capabilities. He highlighted the visit as a significant step towards deepening the partnership and identifying new avenues for cooperation.
“Today’s meeting represents a significant milestone in our ongoing partnership and opens up new areas of collaboration. With the technical support from the FBI, the EACC will be better equipped to tackle high-impact cases and vigorously pursue the recovery of assets obtained through corrupt means and unexplained wealth,” Mr. Mbarak stated.
The meeting marked a crucial moment in the joint efforts of the EACC and the FBI to enhance law enforcement collaboration and strengthen mechanisms for fighting corruption.
