Kenya Kwanza MP Denar Joseph Hamisi Dies at 56
Kenya Kwanza Alliance’s nominated Member of Parliament, Denar Joseph Hamisi, has passed away at the age of 56. The sad news was officially confirmed on Saturday morning by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula.
Speaker Wetang’ula announced the death through a formal communication to the House, describing it as a painful loss to Parliament and the country.
“It is with profound sorrow that I hereby notify the House and the entire Parliamentary fraternity of the untimely demise of Nominated Member, the late Hon. Denar Joseph Hamisi, MP, who passed on today, Saturday, December 6, 2025, at about 7am,” Wetang’ula stated.
He added that on behalf of all MPs, parliamentary staff, and himself, he sends heartfelt condolences to Hamisi’s family, friends, and everyone who had witnessed his humility and strong commitment to public service.
Hamisi joined the National Assembly after being nominated under the Amani National Congress (ANC) party following the 2022 General Election.
In Parliament, he made notable contributions as a member of the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture, as well as the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities. Colleagues often described him as diligent, respectful, and dedicated to promoting unity and fairness.
Born in 1969 in Kinango, Kwale County, Hamisi began his education at Mombasa Baptist High School, where he studied between 1984 and 1989 and sat for both the Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE) and Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) examinations.
His passion for learning and professional growth pushed him to further his studies at several institutions.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management from the United States International University (USIU) in 2000, before earning a Master’s in International Business Administration in 2002. He later pursued a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree at the University of Nairobi, completing it in 2006.
Before entering active politics, Hamisi built a long and diverse career across the private and public sectors.
In public service, he served as the Director of the Coast Development Authority between 2007 and 2010 and was appointed a Commissioner at the former Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK) from 2007 to 2008.
He later moved to the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), where he worked as a director from 2009 to 2012.
His leadership experience also extended to other national institutions. He served as the Director of the Kenya National Accreditation Services (2011–2012) and sat as a Council Member at both the University of Nairobi (2013–2018) and Moi University (2021–2022).
Those who worked with him remembered him as a calm, focused, and dependable leader who believed in strengthening institutions and improving service delivery.
Following the announcement of his death, Speaker Wetang’ula appointed a team of MPs to work closely with Hamisi’s family to organize his funeral arrangements.
The committee will be chaired by Kilifi North MP and Deputy Leader of the Majority Party, Owen Baya.
Hamisi’s passing marks a major loss for Parliament, Kwale County, and the many institutions he helped shape throughout his career.
Colleagues and citizens continue to mourn a leader remembered for his humility, professionalism, and dedication to the nation.
