Ruto, Cabinet Secretaries Announce New and Renewed Government Appointments

President William Ruto, together with several Cabinet Secretaries, has announced a fresh list of appointments and reappointments to various government agencies and state corporations. The changes were made public through notices published in the Kenya Gazette dated Friday, January 9.

According to the Gazette notices, the appointments cut across several important sectors of government, including trade facilitation, export promotion, energy development, land management, and national revenue administration. The move reflects ongoing efforts by the government to strengthen leadership and oversight within key public institutions.

President Ruto appointed Joseph Ogendo as the new Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya Trade Network Agency Board. His term officially began on January 9 and will run until May 25, 2026. The agency plays a critical role in improving trade efficiency and easing the movement of goods across borders.

In another appointment, the President named Dennis Mwirigi as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency Board.

Mwirigi will serve a three-year term starting January 9, 2026. The agency is tasked with promoting Kenyan products and strengthening the country’s image in international markets.

The Head of State also renewed the term of Walter Nyambati as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Geothermal Development Company Board.

Nyambati will continue serving for another three years from January 9, 2026, overseeing the development of geothermal energy, a key pillar of Kenya’s renewable energy strategy.

Daniel Chemno was similarly reappointed as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the New Kenya Planters Co-operative Union Board.

His new term will take effect on February 10, 2026, allowing him to continue guiding the cooperative, which supports farmers and agricultural value chains across the country.

President Ruto also reappointed Bishop Dr Stephen Mairori as Chairperson of the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) Board. Mairori will serve a fresh three-year term starting January 20, 2026.

He is a well-known religious and public figure who serves as the Senior Pastor of African Inland Church (AIC) Milimani in Nairobi and as the Bishop of the Diaspora Area Church Council within the AIC.

During his previous tenure at NACADA, Bishop Mairori oversaw major policy and operational reforms. His leadership focused on prevention programmes, stronger community involvement, and improved enforcement of regulations aimed at reducing alcohol and drug abuse across the country.

On matters relating to national revenue collection, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi reappointed Hadi Sheikh Abdulahi, Richard Boro Ndung’u, and Lydia Cherono Rono as members of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Board.

Their new three-year terms will begin on January 13, 2026, ensuring continuity in the oversight of the country’s tax administration.

William Oluoch Adera was appointed as the Registrar of the Kenya Institute of Supplies Management for a three-year term. His role will involve regulating and supporting professionals in procurement and supply chain management.

Meanwhile, Trade Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui revoked the appointment of James Wahome Ndegwa to the Business Premises Rent Tribunal, marking a change in leadership within the body that handles commercial tenancy disputes.

In the lands sector, Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome appointed Getrude Rapong’o, Mutua Mutisya, Silas Mbaabu Gichuru, and Dr Fredrick Omondi Owino as members of the Physical Planners Registration Board.

Their appointments will run for three years from January 9, 2026, as they oversee the regulation and professional standards of physical planners in Kenya.

The latest appointments highlight continued adjustments within government institutions as the administration seeks to enhance efficiency, accountability, and service delivery across different sectors.
