Uhuru Denies Claims He Asked Gachagua to Organise Mt Kenya Political Meeting
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has strongly denied claims circulating on social media that he directed Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua to organise a major political meeting bringing together leaders from the Mt Kenya region.
In an official statement released on Thursday, Uhuru dismissed the claims as false and misleading. He cautioned members of the public against spreading or sharing unverified information that is wrongly attributed to him, especially on social media platforms where misinformation can spread quickly.
The statement, issued through his Secretary of Communication, Kanze Dena Mararo, made it clear that the messages being shared online were not authorised and do not represent Uhuru Kenyatta’s views, opinions, or political position regarding Mt Kenya politics or any ongoing political activities in the country.
“The Office of the 4th President, Uhuru Kenyatta, has observed with concern the deliberate circulation of false and misleading content on social media platforms,” the statement read.
The office expressed concern that such misinformation could confuse the public and distort the former President’s stance on national and regional political matters.
Uhuru’s office further clarified that any official communication from the retired President will only be issued through verified platforms associated with the Office of the 4th President or through official Jubilee Party communication channels. Kenyans were urged to treat any statements shared outside these platforms with caution.
“We urge all citizens to exercise vigilance, verify information before sharing, and avoid amplifying falsehoods that erode public trust. The dignity of the Office of the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya remains paramount,” the statement added.
The clarification follows widespread claims suggesting that Uhuru had instructed Gachagua to mobilise his political allies ahead of a high-level meeting aimed at uniting Mt Kenya leaders to discuss the political challenges facing the region.
These claims gained traction online but have now been firmly rejected by Uhuru’s office.
In another separate viral post dated January 26 and also attributed to Uhuru, it was alleged that the former President was unwell and deeply troubled by the country’s political direction.
The post further claimed he was concerned about the treatment of citizens, including reports of children being teargassed inside a church. Uhuru’s office has also dismissed these claims as untrue and misleading.
These developments come at a time when political tensions remain high in the Mt Kenya region. Gachagua, who leads the DCP, has been actively pushing for the unification of the vote-rich Mt Kenya bloc under his leadership, positioning himself as a key political figure ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Despite the ongoing political realignments, Uhuru has appeared to keep his distance from Gachagua and his allies. He has previously stated that his Jubilee Party will support former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i as its presidential candidate in the 2027 elections, signalling a different political direction.
As the race towards 2027 continues to gather momentum, Jubilee Party has also announced significant changes in its leadership. Last Thursday, the party named Jeremiah Kioni as its new Deputy Party Leader as part of a broader restructuring.
In a statement issued on Thursday, January 22, Jubilee Party confirmed that former Narok Member of Parliament Richard Ole Kenta has been appointed the new Secretary General, replacing Kioni.
The party also announced several other key appointments following a leadership meeting.
Zack Kinuthia was named Deputy Secretary General, while Yassin Noor Haji took over as National Organising Secretary. Vincent Mogaka Kimoki was appointed Chairperson.
Additional appointments include Dan Mwangi as Executive Director, Kiembi Gitura as Director of Elections, Peter Kados as Chair of the MCA Caucus, and Saitoti Torome as Jubilee Foundation Public Policy Director.
The leadership changes signal Jubilee Party’s efforts to reorganise and strengthen its structures as it prepares for future political contests, including the highly anticipated 2027 General Election.
