Woman Falls to Her Knees as She Appeals to President Ruto for Business Support
President William Ruto has pledged extra support to a woman entrepreneur after an emotional moment during the Nyota Fund distribution event held at Gusii Stadium in Kisii County.
The woman moved the crowd when she fell to her knees and pleaded directly with the President to help her revive her struggling business dreams.
The woman explained that she had previously been running a clothing business, but due to financial challenges, she was forced to shut it down. After closing the business, she planned to venture into selling T-shirts and school uniforms.
However, that plan did not succeed because most students had already returned to school, leaving her with no ready market for the products.
Through the Nyota Fund, the woman initially planned to restart her journey by opening a clothing business that would focus on apparel for newborn babies.
She said the idea was inspired by the steady demand for baby products within her community. After President Ruto promised her additional financial support, she confidently presented another idea—starting a laundromat in her village.
According to her, there is no laundromat in her area, and residents are forced to travel long distances to access such services. She said opening one would not only help her earn a living but also provide a much-needed service to the community.
“I want to start a laundromat because no one in our locality has ventured into it, and I believe there is a big opportunity,” she told the President.
President Ruto welcomed her idea and assured her of government support. He revealed that the Kisii County governor had agreed to waive business license requirements to allow her to start operations without unnecessary barriers. The President also promised mentorship to guide her through the business process and reduce the risk of failure.
“The governor has agreed to waive the business license for you so that you can operate smoothly. We will also provide mentorship to make sure your business succeeds,” Ruto stated.
During the same event, President Ruto announced a new funding model targeting Kenyan youth who did not complete their formal education.
He said the programme will benefit 90,000 young people across the country by providing them with practical skills that can help them earn a living.
Under the new model, each beneficiary will receive KSh 36,000 to cater for training and examination costs.
The aim is to ensure participants acquire hands-on skills and receive certification that can improve their chances of employment or self-employment.
The President emphasized that skills development is key to empowering young people economically.
Ruto revealed that the programme will be launched through the Hustler Fund platform and accessed using the *254# service.
However, he clarified that youth who have already benefited from the Nyota Fund will not be eligible to apply for the new initiative.
“We are looking for 90,000 youth whom we want to equip with practical abilities. We will support you with KSh 36,000 to attend a course and also pay for your exams so that you can get certificates to help you in life,” the President said.
He encouraged unemployed youth to take advantage of the opportunity, especially those interested in vocational trades such as electrical work, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, and other technical skills that are in high demand.
The President also informed the youth about ongoing government efforts to secure job opportunities abroad.
He said the National Employment Authority Integrated Management System is being used to link skilled Kenyan youth with employment opportunities outside the country, as part of broader efforts to tackle unemployment.
