Drama as Activists Forcefully Removed from Court During Protest Over Alleged Police Brutality
There was drama at the Milimani Law Courts on Monday, February 16, after two activists were forcefully removed from a courtroom following a heated protest against what they described as growing cases of police brutality.
The incident quickly attracted attention and has once again raised public concern about the conduct of law enforcement officers and the treatment of activists in the country.
According to witnesses, the situation began when the two activists stood up during court proceedings and started delivering an emotional and strongly worded address.
In their remarks, they criticized authorities for what they claimed was a failure to protect ordinary citizens and accused the system of allowing injustice and oppression to continue unchecked.
Their speech focused on the frustrations felt by many Kenyans who believe their voices are often ignored when they speak out against wrongdoing.
During the address, the activists said they were tired of living in fear and insisted that citizens had a constitutional right to express themselves freely. They argued that silence and fear had contributed to continued loss of lives, claiming that many people remain quiet even when faced with injustice.
The activists repeatedly called on Kenyans to stand up for their rights, saying that remaining silent only allows problems to grow worse.
Their message, delivered loudly and passionately, echoed through the courtroom and drew the attention of everyone present.
Tension increased when police officers moved in and attempted to escort the activists out of the courtroom. One of the protesters reportedly resisted and warned officers not to touch him, leading to a tense standoff that lasted several moments.
The atmosphere quickly became charged as officers insisted on restoring order while the activists continued to resist removal.
The confrontation soon turned physical when officers moved to remove the two from the courtroom. The activists reportedly resisted together, attempting to block the officers’ efforts as they continued shouting their message.
However, they were eventually overpowered and dragged out of the courtroom as onlookers watched the dramatic scene unfold. Court proceedings were temporarily disrupted as the commotion caused confusion and tension among those present.
Even as he was being removed, one of the activists continued shouting slogans, declaring that he was ready to sacrifice his life for freedom and truth. His remarks reflected the depth of emotion and frustration that characterized the protest and further intensified the moment.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with raised voices and visible anxiety among members of the public who had gathered inside the courtroom.
The incident occurred just hours after opposition leaders under the United Opposition reported that two people had died and about 50 others were injured following alleged police disruption of a peaceful “Linda Wananchi” rally in Kitengela.
The rally was reportedly organized by leaders linked to the Orange Democratic Movement faction associated with Edwin Sifuna.
The developments have intensified debate across the country about police conduct, freedom of expression, and the growing tension between activists, opposition leaders, and security agencies.
Many observers say the events highlight increasing frustration among sections of the public, while others have called for calm and respect for the rule of law as investigations and discussions continue.
