Government Launches Investigation After Viral Videos Allegedly Show Russian Man Targeting Kenyan Women

The government has begun a multi-agency investigation following the circulation of disturbing viral videos that allegedly show a Russian national abusing and exploiting Kenyan women. The matter has attracted widespread public concern online, prompting authorities to move quickly to address the allegations and protect potential victims.

In a statement released on Monday, February 16, the Ministry of Gender, Culture, and Children Services, through Cabinet Secretary Hanna Wendot Cheptumo, strongly condemned the incident.

The Ministry described the videos as deeply troubling, noting that some of the footage appeared to have been recorded without the women’s knowledge or consent. Officials emphasized that such actions amount to a serious violation of privacy and personal dignity.

According to the statement, secretly recording individuals, especially in intimate or sensitive situations, goes against the constitutional rights guaranteed to every person in Kenya.

The Ministry noted that respect for personal privacy and human dignity remains a fundamental principle under Kenyan law, and any actions that undermine these rights will be treated seriously.

Over the weekend, social media platforms were flooded with videos allegedly showing the foreign national interacting with different women, some believed to be Kenyan.

In several clips, the man is seen approaching women in public spaces, engaging them in brief conversations that reportedly end with pressure or persuasion for the women to accompany him.

What happened after these encounters remains unclear, although several people claiming to be victims have since come forward online, giving different accounts of their experiences.

Cabinet Secretary Cheptumo confirmed that investigative and security agencies had been instructed to treat the matter as urgent. She explained that the government is adopting a coordinated approach involving multiple agencies to ensure that all aspects of the case are thoroughly examined.

Authorities are also exploring cooperation with international law enforcement and prosecutorial bodies due to the cross-border nature of the allegations.

In its statement, the government reiterated that anyone found responsible for violating the law would face legal consequences.

Officials added that the investigation would consider all possible offences, including violations related to privacy, cybercrime, and the protection of women and vulnerable individuals.

Meanwhile, authorities in Ghana have also acknowledged awareness of similar allegations involving the same individual. The Ghanaian government reportedly confirmed that investigations were underway after claims emerged that the foreign national had recorded encounters with women and shared the content online without their consent.

Ghanaian officials stressed that such actions constitute serious criminal offences and called for immediate investigations by relevant agencies.

Unverified reports circulating online suggest that the suspect may have used wearable technology, possibly smart glasses, to secretly record interactions with women. Some reports mention devices similar to Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, although this information has not yet been officially confirmed by investigators.

The Kenyan government has assured the public that the matter is being handled with seriousness and sensitivity, especially considering the safety and dignity of the women involved.

Authorities have also urged members of the public to avoid spreading unverified content and instead allow investigators to carry out their work while protecting the privacy of potential victims.
