Kenya Met Lists Five Regions Expecting Rains This Weekend
The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a new weekend weather advisory announcing that several regions across the country will continue to receive rain over the next five days.
According to the update released on Friday, November 14, the rains will mainly persist in the Highland East region, the Rift Valley, Western Kenya, and areas around the Lake Victoria basin.
Although some parts of Kenya will still enjoy sunny weather, the advisory notes that moderate to heavy rains will dominate in the listed regions from Friday this week until Tuesday next week.
In the Highland East region, the forecast shows that counties such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi will continue to experience steady rainfall.
The department explained that residents should expect moderate showers beginning from mid-morning, followed by brief sunny intervals, before more rainfall returns in the afternoon and evening.
This pattern is also expected across the Rift Valley and Lake Victoria basin counties including Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, and Uasin Gishu.
More counties in these regions—such as Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, West Pokot, and Elgeyo Marakwet—are also listed in the advisory.
While the Highland East counties are expected to have moderate rains, the Rift Valley and Lake Victoria basin are likely to experience heavier downpours.
Kenya Met added that rainfall in these areas will mostly start in the afternoon and continue into the night, often accompanied by thunderstorms, making the weather more intense in some places.
The advisory also mentioned that parts of the South-eastern lowlands—including Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta—will receive light rains.
Similar conditions are expected in the inland sections of Tana River County, where slight showers may occur from time to time.
Temperature Advisory
Along with rainfall updates, Kenya Met also issued a temperature alert affecting several regions. According to the advisory, counties in the Highland East region—Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi—will experience very cold nights, with temperatures dropping to as low as 5°C.
Residents in these areas have been urged to prepare for chilly nights and early mornings as the low temperatures persist over the next five days.
Meanwhile, the coastal counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, as well as parts of Tana River County near the coast, are expected to experience hot daytime temperatures. Kenya Met forecasts that temperatures in these areas will reach highs of up to 33°C.
The advisory also shows that Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, and Kericho will similarly see warm daytime conditions, with temperatures rising to around 30°C.
Overall, the weekend and early week weather pattern will bring a mix of rain, cold nights, and hot daytime conditions across different parts of the country.
The meteorological department continues to urge Kenyans to stay alert and take necessary precautions, especially in areas expecting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
