DP’s Office Dismisses Claims Officer Linked to Kitengela Robbery Worked for Kindiki
The office of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has strongly denied reports suggesting that one of the police officers arrested over a robbery incident in Kitengela was attached to the DP’s office.
In a clear and firm response, the office stated that the officer in question has never been assigned to the Harambee Avenue offices and has never worked with the Deputy President at any point in his career.
The statement aimed to correct what it described as misleading claims that had been circulating following the arrests.
This clarification came after four police officers were apprehended in connection with a robbery targeting a foreign national in Kitengela on Wednesday, March 25.
Initial reports had alleged that one of the suspects had links to the Deputy President’s office, prompting a quick response to set the record straight.
Further details reviewed by Newshub.co.ke reveal that the officer at the center of the controversy has a troubling disciplinary history.
Records indicate that he had previously been stationed at Kikuyu Police Station before being officially transferred to Elwak Police Station on December 30, 2025.
However, he reportedly failed to report to his new station, raising additional concerns about his conduct and accountability within the service.
According to police findings, the group of four officers is accused of robbing a Congolese national of valuables worth hundreds of thousands of shillings.
Among the stolen items were a diamond necklace valued at Ksh 247,000, more than 3,000 US dollars (approximately Ksh 390,000), 300 Euros (about Ksh 45,200), and Ksh 500 in cash.
The incident was not only a robbery but also involved violence. Reports indicate that the victim was assaulted during the ordeal, sustaining injuries to his neck and back.
He was later taken to hospital, where he received treatment and was discharged in stable condition.
Investigations show that the victim had been travelling from Namanga to Nairobi when he encountered a civilian suspect who is still on the run.
This individual allegedly convinced him to engage in a business deal involving the sale of the diamond necklace. The victim was persuaded to travel to Kitengela, where he was told he would meet a potential buyer.
Upon arriving at the Kitengela main stage, the victim was directed to a vehicle where two men, posing as buyers, were waiting.
Shortly after, two additional men forcefully entered the vehicle and pretended to carry out an arrest, even attempting to handcuff him in what appeared to be a well-planned scheme.
However, the plan did not go as expected. Members of the public nearby became suspicious and quickly intervened, stopping the fake arrest.
They managed to apprehend one of the suspects and escorted both him and the victim to Kitengela Police Station, helping to prevent the situation from escalating further.
Subsequent police investigations revealed a shocking twist — all four suspects involved in the incident were serving police officers.
One of them was identified as a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer based in Kitengela, while the other three were reportedly attached to stations in Nairobi.
The suspects, all holding the rank of police constable, are currently in custody and are expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.
This case comes shortly after another separate operation in the same area led to the arrest of a senior military officer.
The back-to-back incidents have raised growing concern among the public about the increasing involvement of individuals in uniform in criminal activities such as robbery and fraud.
Many Kenyans are now calling for stricter oversight and accountability within the security forces to restore public trust.
