Ichung’wah Responds Strongly to Gachagua Following Ol Kalou Accusations
Kimani Ichung’wah, the Majority Leader of the National Assembly and Member of Parliament for Kikuyu, has fired back at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, alleging that Gachagua was behind violent attacks on his family and offices in Kikuyu constituency in June 2025.
Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly on Thursday, April 9, Ichung’wah said that on that date, organised groups were deliberately mobilised to target his property.
He claimed that his residence, his NG-CDF office, county government offices, law courts, and other national government facilities in Kikuyu were attacked and set on fire.
Ichung’wah also stated that the assailants attempted to harm his elderly father, who was then 105 years old.
“On June 26, 2025, he organised goons who came and burnt our offices, the county government offices in Kikuyu. Our law courts and county government offices were set on fire,” Ichung’wah said. “They even tried to burn down my home.
That was the day he sent people to try to kill my father, who was 105 years old at the time,” the Kikuyu MP added.
The events Ichung’wah refers to coincided with protests by young people against the 2025 Finance Bill, during which the Kiambu Court was burned. Ichung’wah now alleges that these attacks on his offices were orchestrated by groups linked to Gachagua.
During his address in the National Assembly, Ichung’wah also rejected accusations made by Gachagua the previous day, Wednesday, April 8, during the funeral of Ol Kalou MP David Kiaraho.
Gachagua had claimed that Ichung’wah was behind chaos at opposition rallies in Kikuyu constituency, suggesting that he used hired goons to create disturbances, especially in the Mount Kenya region.
Ichung’wah described Gachagua’s claims as a form of “reverse psychology,” questioning why he would ever target his own property and endanger his family.
He also criticized Gachagua for attempting to involve Speaker Moses Wetang’ula by calling out MPs’ names on the Assembly floor without following proper procedure.
“He works with reverse psychology, Honourable Speaker. What he was trying to do yesterday was to incite the crowd to heckle you,” Ichung’wah said.
He urged fellow MPs to uphold the dignity of the House and protect the Office of the Speaker from any attacks or provocation.
The two leaders were once close allies when Gachagua served as Deputy President, but their relationship soured following his impeachment in 2024.
Since then, they have become political adversaries, with Gachagua accusing President William Ruto of using Ichung’wah to create divisions within the Mount Kenya region.
Ichung’wah’s strong rebuttal signals the deepening rift between the former allies, highlighting the tension and political rivalry that continues to shape Mount Kenya politics, especially as the 2025 election year approaches.
