Chaos ensued at the Meru County Assembly today as Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) engaged in a heated debate over the fifth motion to oust Governor Kawira Mwangaza.
The session, already tense, was further escalated by violent clashes both inside and outside the assembly premises.
Outside the assembly, Njuri Ncheke elders attempting to enter the site were met with opposition from mobs chanting anti-Kawira slogans.
The situation quickly deteriorated as confrontations broke out, prompting a large deployment of police officers to secure the area.
The heavy police presence was a response to fears that thugs might storm the assembly and set it ablaze.
Gunshots were reported during the night as some individuals attempted to breach the assembly but were deterred by the police.
Meanwhile, a masked group outside the assembly was heard singing “Bye Bye Kawira,” adding to the charged atmosphere.
The debate centers around a motion tabled last Thursday by nominated MCA Zipporah Kinya, marking the fifth attempt to remove Governor Mwangaza from office.
The escalating violence reflects the deep divisions and high stakes surrounding this ongoing political struggle in Meru County.
