Court Suspends Herman Manyora’s Appointment as KHA Chairperson
The ongoing drama involving political analyst Herman Manyora has taken another twist after a Nairobi court on Monday, July 7, suspended his appointment as Chairperson of the Kenya Hospital Association (KHA) board.
The suspension comes after a petition was filed in court questioning the legitimacy of his claim to the top position.
This development has now placed Manyora’s position in uncertainty as the court awaits to hear and determine the petition challenging his leadership. The case has been scheduled for hearing next Thursday.
Earlier the same day, the Board of Management of The Nairobi Hospital issued a public notice warning all stakeholders and members of the public against conducting any form of business or interaction with Prof. Manyora.
The board insisted that his appointment was based on what they termed as a “self-declared process,” which they said was not in line with the legal and constitutional framework governing the Kenya Hospital Association.
According to the official statement, Prof. Manyora is not authorised to represent or speak on behalf of either the Kenya Hospital Association or The Nairobi Hospital.
“The institution will not take responsibility for any agreements, decisions, or statements made by Prof. Manyora or anyone acting on his behalf,” the notice warned.
Prof. Manyora, widely known for his political analysis and academic contributions, has not yet responded publicly to the suspension or to the strongly worded statement issued by The Nairobi Hospital’s board.
In recent days, there has been mounting confusion over the leadership structure at The Nairobi Hospital. Two rival camps have emerged, each claiming control of the Kenya Hospital Association.
One camp, led by Prof. Manyora, issued a statement on Friday, July 4, claiming that Dr. Barcley Onyambu had been lawfully removed as chairperson through a board resolution passed on June 30, 2025.
According to the statement, “Dr. Barcley Onyambu was lawfully removed from the position of Chairman and Prof. Herman Manyora was duly elected in his place. Prof. Manyora is now fully vested with the mandate, authority, and responsibilities of the office of Chairperson of the Board and is legally entitled to discharge all functions attendant to the role.”
However, this claim sparked a standoff after Dr. Onyambu, supported by the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer and Company Secretary, declined to vacate the office. This dispute eventually led to the matter being taken to court.
As the legal battle unfolds, the leadership of the Kenya Hospital Association remains in turmoil, with the court now set to determine who holds legitimate authority over the institution.
