Ekuru Aukot Urges President Ruto and Deputy President Kindiki to Step Down Over Failure to Protect Kenyans

Thirdway Alliance party leader and former presidential candidate Ekuru Aukot has called for the immediate resignation of President William Ruto and his Deputy Kithure Kindiki.

In a strongly worded statement dated July 9, Aukot accused the top leadership of running a government that has failed to protect the lives and property of its citizens.

According to Aukot, the Ruto-led administration is responsible for state-sponsored violence, ethnic persecution, and serious violations of human rights. He described the current regime as one that has turned against its own people rather than protecting them as mandated by the Constitution.

“Kenya is not under attack from outside forces, but from its own government. A government that chooses to silence its people with brutality instead of dialogue, responds with bullets instead of compassion, and uses fear in place of constitutional order,” the statement read.

The statement, jointly signed by Aukot and Thirdway Alliance National Chairman Miruru Waweru, condemned a growing pattern of abductions, torture, and killings of unarmed citizens—most of whom, they said, are young people peacefully protesting against economic hardship and corruption.

The party alleged that instead of addressing public concerns like rising unemployment, high cost of living, and widespread corruption, the state has responded with violent crackdowns and ethnic scapegoating.

It further accused the government of targeting specific regions, particularly the Mt. Kenya area, with attacks on businesses, arbitrary arrests, and deliberate incitement through state-controlled messaging.

“What we are witnessing is a calculated effort to divide Kenyans along tribal lines and distract them from the real issues affecting the country. The government cannot answer calls for justice and better governance with violence.

It cannot respond to poverty and public outcry with abductions and fear,” Aukot emphasized.

In addition to calling for the resignation of Ruto and Kindiki, the party is also demanding the immediate dismissal and prosecution of top security officials, including the Inspector General of Police and the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Aukot and his party hold these officials directly accountable for the wave of human rights abuses that have occurred under their watch.

The Thirdway Alliance has further proposed the establishment of an independent international commission to investigate the recent killings, forced disappearances, and incidents of ethnic profiling. They also called for fair compensation for families who have lost loved ones or been affected by police brutality.

“We cannot and must not allow leaders to hold on to power through bloodshed. Our Constitution was not written to be trampled by tyranny. Kenya must never again surrender to dictatorship dressed up as leadership,” the statement continued.

These remarks from Aukot come amid rising public outrage, adding to the growing list of political leaders and activists demanding accountability from the government.

Others who have recently voiced similar demands include Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, and thousands of Kenyans who have taken to the streets or social media to express their frustration.

Many of these voices have also urged Members of Parliament to initiate an impeachment process against President Ruto, arguing that his administration has lost the moral and constitutional authority to lead the nation.

As pressure mounts, it remains to be seen how the government will respond to the growing calls for justice, reform, and leadership change. However, what is clear is that the voices demanding accountability are becoming louder and more united by the day.
