The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a new weekly weather forecast, warning residents in several parts of the country — including Nairobi, Kiambu, and Murang’a — to prepare for consistent rainfall throughout the week.
According to the department’s outlook, areas such as Nairobi, Mombasa, Kwale, Nakuru, and Machakos will experience heavier rainfall between Tuesday, November 11, and Saturday, November 15.
The weatherman noted that most of these regions should expect an increase in rainfall intensity and longer wet spells during this period.
Counties such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi are expected to experience daylong showers and light to moderate rains throughout the forecast period.
In these regions, the highest temperatures will reach around 30°C, while the lowest temperatures may drop to about 7°C, making the weather relatively cool and humid.
The forecast also indicated that Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and inland areas of Tana River County will record occasional rain both during the day and at night through most of the week.
However, the conditions in these areas are expected to be slightly warmer compared to the central highlands. Here, maximum temperatures will rise to around 34°C, with minimum temperatures averaging about 14°C.
Along the Coast — including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties — as well as parts of Tana River County, residents should expect scattered showers during the day.
The forecast highlights that Friday afternoon and the entire Saturday will likely be sunny, bringing a short break from the wet conditions. Despite this, cloudy nights will dominate the coastal belt for most of the week.
The highest daytime temperatures in these areas will average around 33°C, while nighttime lows will stay near 23°C.
In the western and Rift Valley regions — including Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot — residents should prepare for rain and thunderstorms, especially on Tuesday, Thursday afternoon and night, as well as Friday afternoon and night.
The weatherman noted that sunny breaks will occur during the day on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday morning, with Saturday expected to be mostly clear and bright. Temperatures in these areas will range from highs of 31°C to lows of around 9°C.
In northern Kenya, counties such as Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo will experience predominantly sunny weather on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday.
However, rainfall is forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, likely covering most of the day. The region will remain hot, with maximum temperatures expected to reach 38°C and minimums around 17°C.
Meanwhile, Turkana and Samburu counties will experience daylong showers through much of the week, except on Saturday, when dry and sunny conditions are expected.
The forecast predicts that maximum temperatures in these two counties will reach about 33°C, with minimums staying around 23°C.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has urged residents in all affected areas to stay alert and plan their activities accordingly. The rains, though beneficial for agriculture and water supply, could also lead to localized flooding, especially in low-lying areas.
Motorists have been advised to drive carefully on wet roads, and farmers are encouraged to take advantage of the rainfall for planting and irrigation purposes.
