A new group of recruits for the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), including general duty officers and tradesmen and tradeswomen, has officially reported for training.
According to a statement released on Monday, the KDF confirmed that Cohort 01/25 had arrived at the Defence Forces Recruit Training School (DFRTS) to begin their initial phase of military preparation.
The official welcoming ceremony was led by Brigadier Alphonce Ndar, who congratulated the recruits for successfully joining the forces and encouraged them to stay focused throughout the training period.
“I wish you all the very best in your training. Stay healthy, take good care of yourselves, and approach your training with a high level of discipline and commitment,” Brigadier Ndar advised the new recruits.
After arrival, the recruits will go through a series of procedures, including verification of personal documents, detailed medical screening, biometric registration, issuance of military kits, and an initial orientation.
These steps are essential in ensuring that every recruit meets the required standards before they begin full training.
Once these formalities are complete, the recruits will embark on comprehensive foundational military training. The program includes lessons on discipline, physical fitness, field craft, leadership development, and essential soldiering skills that prepare them to serve effectively in various military operations.
Their reporting comes only a few weeks after the field recruitment exercise for general duty recruits concluded on October 25. The national recruitment drive had begun on October 13 and was conducted in various regions across the country.
This physical recruitment followed closely after the closure of online applications on October 12 for other categories such as General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets, Specialist Officers, and Tradesmen and Tradeswomen.
Later, on October 24, the KDF published a shortlist of more than 3,000 candidates for these specialized categories in local newspapers. The shortlisted applicants are expected to attend physical interviews on selected dates as part of the next phase of the recruitment process.
Among those who reported for training on Monday were 1,310 tradesmen and tradeswomen. These candidates had earlier attended their interviews at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Lang’ata, Nairobi, on November 3.
The tradesmen and tradeswomen form an essential part of the Defence Forces as they bring valuable technical and vocational skills that support KDF’s daily operations.
Their professions range widely, including electricians, mechanics, technicians, drivers, carpenters, masons, welders, tailors, cooks, storekeepers, clerks, musicians, bandsmen, instrument technicians, as well as ICT and communication experts.
In addition, 861 shortlisted General Service Officer (GSO) Cadet candidates for the regular program are scheduled to report to the Kenya Military Academy (KMA) in Lanet, Nakuru, on Monday, December 1, for interviews.
Meanwhile, another 704 graduate GSO cadet candidates will have their interviews earlier on November 24 at the same venue.
The arrival of this new cohort marks yet another significant milestone for the Kenya Defence Forces as they continue to strengthen their manpower and technical capacity to safeguard the nation’s security and stability.
