DCI Signals Action Against Gachagua Over Explosive Fuel Scandal Claims
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has warned that it may take legal action against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua after his controversial remarks linking President William Ruto to the ongoing KSh 4.8 billion fuel scandal.
The warning follows statements Gachagua made during an Easter Sunday church service at AIPCA Gakoe Church in Gatundu North, Kiambu County, where he directly connected the head of state to the unfolding fuel importation saga.
While addressing the congregation, Gachagua made explosive allegations, claiming that detectives had recovered KSh 500 million in cash from the homes of suspects linked to the scandal.
He further alleged that the money, which he described as a key exhibit in the case, was later surrendered to President Ruto after pressure was allegedly exerted on investigators.
According to the former deputy president, the arrests and resignations of senior energy officials were not purely about accountability, but part of a deeper political and business fallout surrounding the controversial fuel deal.
In a swift and strongly worded response, the DCI dismissed Gachagua’s claims as false, malicious, and completely unsupported by any evidence. The agency said the remarks were designed to damage public trust in one of the country’s most important law enforcement institutions.
Detectives insisted that all exhibits, recoveries, and information connected to the suspected irregular procurement of fuel cargo by the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum are being handled professionally, lawfully, and in full compliance with Service Standing Orders and Kenyan law.
The DCI further stated that the accusations had no factual or evidentiary foundation and appeared to be politically motivated.
The agency emphasized that it will not allow itself to be intimidated, influenced, or distracted by political attacks from leaders seeking to shape public perception of an active investigation.
Officials maintained that the probe into the multi-billion-shilling fuel scandal is ongoing and that all procedures are being followed carefully to preserve the integrity of the case.
Although the DCI did not immediately confirm the exact nature of the action it may take, it made it clear that Gachagua’s remarks are under review and could attract serious consequences if found to violate the law.
Reports indicate the agency is also examining whether some of his statements may amount to incitement, hate speech, or an attempt to interfere with ongoing investigations.
This has raised the political temperature even further as the standoff between the former DP and state agencies deepens.
Despite the warning, Gachagua has remained defiant, daring detectives to arrest him and insisting that he will continue speaking out on what he describes as the truth behind the fuel scandal.
His response has only intensified the public and political debate around the KSh 4.8 billion saga, which has already led to arrests, resignations, and growing scrutiny of senior officials in the energy sector.
This latest clash adds another dramatic chapter to Kenya’s fast-developing fuel scandal, with the DCI determined to defend the credibility of its investigations while Gachagua continues to push his explosive narrative in public forums.
As pressure mounts, many Kenyans will now be watching closely to see whether the detectives follow through on their threat of possible legal action.
