Bishop Johana, a renowned yet controversial Akorino preacher, has passed away.
Born Danson Gichuhi, he died on Thursday, August 8, at Nakuru Provincial General Hospital after a brief illness.
His wife, Mary Wanjiku, confirmed his death, stating that the Bishop had been suffering from a severe headache, which was later diagnosed as meningitis.
Despite medical intervention, his condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to his untimely demise.
Bishop Johana gained notoriety in February 2024 when a video of his unconventional healing ritual went viral.
The footage showed him applying anointing oil to a female congregant’s stomach and genital areas during a deliverance session.
The act sparked widespread debate and concern, with many questioning the morality and ethics of such practices.
In response to the backlash, Bishop Johana defended his actions in an interview with Kururia TV.
He explained that the woman in the video, identified only as Wanjiru, had come to him seeking help for marital problems after her husband left her and their three children.
Johana claimed that his intentions were to assist Wanjiru in her healing journey and that he had offered guidance on the situation.
