Embu town recently witnessed chaotic scenes as protests erupted, leading to confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement.
The unrest began as locals expressed frustration over delayed compensation for land acquired decades ago for infrastructure projects.
Protesters blocked roads with stones and debris, effectively paralyzing transport along key routes. Police responded with tear gas to disperse the crowds, igniting further tensions.
Demonstrators accused authorities of neglecting their grievances, which have persisted for years without resolution.
Additionally, some of the unrest appeared politically motivated. In a related incident, Embu County offices were targeted and set ablaze during demonstrations.
Governor Cecily Mbarire attributed the destruction to politically driven individuals seeking to undermine her administration.
She lamented the sabotage of public property, emphasizing that such actions hinder service delivery to residents. Investigative agencies are now working to identify those responsible for the arson
These developments underscore rising dissatisfaction among citizens over governance issues and unfulfilled promises.
While the authorities are accused of using excessive force, the protests highlight the growing demand for accountability and prompt action to address longstanding grievances in the region.
They had to throw tear gas cannisters at fearless Comrades who were shouting #RutoMustGo straight into the ears of the Sugoi kitchen seller.
