Drama As Driver runs from a moving matatu to evade Alco Blow Watch

a matatu driver shocked passengers and bystanders when he abruptly leaped out of his moving vehicle to evade an Alcoblow checkpoint in Nairobi.

The driver, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, left passengers scrambling to stop the vehicle, which was still in motion.

Witnesses reported that the driver attempted to flee on foot but was eventually apprehended by traffic police who were conducting the routine sobriety checks.

This dramatic escape attempt has reignited public concern over the growing problem of drunk driving on Kenyan roads.

The reintroduction of Alcoblow breathalyzers by Kenyan authorities is part of an intensified effort to curb road accidents, particularly as the festive season approaches.

Statistics reveal that drunk driving significantly contributes to the high number of fatalities on the country’s highways.

Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators, such as matatu drivers, are under stricter scrutiny, with zero tolerance for any traces of alcohol in their system.

Law enforcement agencies have also emphasized the importance of compliance with safety measures to protect passengers and reduce incidents caused by impaired driving.

This incident highlights the challenges of enforcing road safety laws in Kenya. While some drivers continue to flout regulations, many passengers and transport stakeholders have supported the Alcoblow initiative, noting its potential to save lives.

However, concerns over corruption and misuse of the devices by police officers remain, with calls for greater transparency and accountability in the enforcement process.
