Several police officers sustained severe acid burns while pursuing a criminal in Ngara, Nairobi.
The incident began when the officers tracked a suspect fleeing from Nairobi’s CBD with suspicious drugs to a clinic in the Ngara area.
Upon arriving at the facility, the suspect locked himself in a room.
As the officers attempted to gain access, a 45-year-old woman emerged and doused them with a chemical suspected to be acid.
Bystanders quickly called for reinforcements, and officers from Ngara Police Station arrived to find their injured colleagues on the ground.
Two male officers suffered burns on their faces, hands, and legs, while a female officer sustained injuries to her face, chest, and hands.
All three were rushed to Nairobi West Hospital, where they were admitted for specialized treatment. Following the incident, police arrested five suspects, including the woman who carried out the attack.
They also recovered five liters of what is believed to be sulfuric acid and an assortment of suspicious drugs, which are now being held as evidence for further investigation.
This attack is not an isolated event, as law enforcement officers continue to face growing dangers while performing their duties.
In a separate case in Murang’a County, an officer was injured during a violent confrontation with a group of dissatisfied youths in Kenol, Thika.
The officer was pelted with stones after completing a recruitment exercise, leaving him injured.
He received medical treatment in Thika before being discharged. These incidents underscore the escalating risks officers face while maintaining law and order in increasingly volatile environments.
