Butchery Attendant Stabs Colleague to Death in Dispute Over Missing Meat
A tragic incident occurred on Monday evening at Ranen Market in Migori County, where a butchery worker lost his life following a heated argument with his colleague.
According to area chief Phares Osore, the deceased, 35-year-old Geoffrey Ouma, was fatally stabbed by his coworker, identified as Ochieng Odhiambo.
Chief Osore explained that the conflict between the two arose after they accused each other of reporting to their employer about missing meat from both the butchery and the slaughterhouse where they worked.
Their employer, frustrated by the recurring meat losses, had reportedly been considering dismissing both employees over the issue.
This looming threat of losing their jobs is believed to have intensified tensions between the two colleagues, ultimately leading to a confrontation.
During the altercation, Ochieng Odhiambo allegedly stabbed Geoffrey Ouma, resulting in his death.
After the incident, the suspect voluntarily surrendered to the police at Ranen Police Post.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased was taken to Rapcom Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination as police launch investigations into the matter.
Chief Osore urged young people in the area to avoid resorting to violence when disagreements arise.
He encouraged them to embrace peaceful conflict resolution methods, such as mediation and dialogue, to address disputes constructively and avoid unnecessary loss of life.
