National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has leveled serious allegations against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of using proxies to acquire properties and conceal ownership.
During the National Assembly session on October 16, 2024, Ichung’wah highlighted the case of Olive Garden Hotel, asserting that it was sold by the executors of the late Governor Nderitu Gachagua’s will, with Rigathi Gachagua serving as both a beneficiary and executor.
Ichung’wah claimed that the hotel was transferred to Peterson Njomo Muchira, whom he described as a direct proxy of the Deputy President.
In addition to property concerns, Ichung’wah has accused Gachagua of sabotaging agricultural reforms in the Mt. Kenya region.
He alleged that Gachagua’s interference in the tea, coffee, and milk sectors has hindered government efforts to make these industries more profitable for local farmers.
Ichung’wah claimed that Gachagua’s actions have created bottlenecks and undue demands, negatively impacting the livelihoods of farmers in the region.
The tension between the two leaders escalated further when Ichung’wah dismissed Gachagua’s public address regarding his impeachment proceedings as “sympathy-seeking gimmicks.”
He argued that the Deputy President’s attempts to appeal to public sentiment were futile and would not influence Members of Parliament during the impeachment process.
Ichung’wah emphasized that the grounds for impeachment were credible and should be addressed substantively, rather than through emotional appeals.
