Ndindi Nyoro & Gachagua Allies Removed From Key Committee Positions

Kiharu Member of Parliament, Ndindi Nyoro, has been removed from his role as the chairperson of the National Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee. However, he remains a member of the committee for now, pending a new election in the next seven days to choose a fresh chairperson.

The motion to remove Nyoro and other MPs from their leadership roles was tabled in Parliament on Wednesday by South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro. He explained that over 90 MPs had shown interest in joining the budget committee, but with only 27 slots available, there was a need for a fair selection process.

“More than 90 members expressed their desire to be part of the Budget and Appropriations Committee, yet the standing orders allow only 27 members. To balance this, we had to apply certain criteria, including regional representation, gender balance, political alignment, and internal negotiations,” Osoro explained. “We urge the House to approve this list as it stands. Once passed, the selected members will convene within seven days to elect their chairpersons.”

New Committee Members

The 27 MPs chosen to join the restructured committee include:

  • Robert Pukose
  • Mathias Nyamabe Robi
  • John Chikati Murumba
  • John Njuguna Wanjiku
  • John Paul Mwirigi
  • Mwengi Mutuse
  • Samwel Moroto Chumel
  • Joseph Lekuton
  • David Ouma Ochieng
  • Florence Jematiah Sergon
  • Nyakundi Japheth Mokaya
  • Michael Mwangi Muchira
  • Ole Ntutu Kitilai
  • Jane Wangechi Kagiri
  • Ali Wario Guyo
  • Wangaya Christopher Aseka
  • Adan Wehliye Keynan
  • Atandi Samuel Onunga
  • Ruth Adhiambo Odinga
  • Gogo Lilian Achieng
  • Ongili Babu Owino Paul
  • Mulu Makali Benson
  • Mwakuwona Danson Mwashako
  • Lesuuda Josephine Naisula
  • Masara Peter Francis
  • Abdirahman Mohamed Abdi

Gachagua’s Allies Also Lose Leadership Positions

Ndindi Nyoro was not the only casualty of the reshuffle. Several allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also lost their influential positions in Parliament.

Among them was Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, who was removed from her role as chairperson of the Constitutional Oversight and Implementation Committee. She was reassigned to the Members Services Committee, which is considered a less powerful position.

Other Gachagua allies who were also removed from their roles include:

  • Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia
  • Embakasi North MP James Gakuya
  • Kajiado North MP Onesmus Ngogoyo

Similar Purge in the Senate

This shake-up in the National Assembly follows a similar restructuring in the Senate a few weeks ago, where key allies of Gachagua were also ousted from their positions.

Notable senators affected by the changes included Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa and Nyandarua Senator John Methu. Thang’wa was removed as Chairperson of the Roads and Transport Committee, while Methu lost his seat on the County Public Accounts Committee. Both politicians attributed their removal to their association with former Deputy President Gachagua.

This latest move signals an ongoing political realignment within Parliament, with powerful figures being strategically pushed out of key leadership positions.
