Former Kisumu West MP Kenn Nyagudi Passes Away at KNH
Former Kisumu West Member of Parliament, Rev. Kenn Nyagudi, has passed away after battling a prolonged illness.
His death was confirmed by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula through his official X account on Sunday, March 24.
According to Wetangula, the former legislator breathed his last on Sunday while receiving treatment at the private wing of Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).
“I extend my deepest condolences to the family of former Kisumu Town West MP Rev. Kenn Nyagudi. I had the honor of interacting with him during my tenure as Foreign Affairs Minister,” Wetangula stated.
He further expressed his sympathies, adding, “He passed away this evening while undergoing treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital. May his family find strength and solace in the Lord during this difficult time.”
Nyagudi’s Political Journey
Rev. Kenn Nyagudi first rose to Parliament in 2004, winning a by-election following the passing of Joab Omino in January of the same year. He served as the Kisumu West MP for a term of four years before losing his seat to Olago Aluoch in the 2007 General Elections.
Despite the setback, Nyagudi remained active in politics and, in 2013, contested for the Kisumu Central MP seat. However, he was unsuccessful, losing to Ken Obura.
Another Former MP Passes Away
Nyagudi’s passing comes nearly a month after the demise of former Baringo North MP Willy Rotich Kamuren, who died on Friday, February 28, while undergoing treatment in Nairobi.
Kamuren was a respected politician and businessman with a significant impact on Baringo County’s political landscape. His political journey dates back to 1963, when he was elected as the first MP for Baringo East (now Tiaty Constituency) under the Kenya African Democratic Union (KADU).
Later, in 1983, he was nominated to Parliament and went on to serve as the elected MP for Baringo North Constituency from 1988 to 1997 under the Kenya African National Union (KANU).
The country mourns the loss of these two seasoned politicians, both of whom played instrumental roles in shaping their respective regions’ political landscapes.
