Kenyan Fan Loses His Car During Kenya-Gabon Match
A Kenyan football fan became the victim of a robbery while attending the World Cup qualifiers match between Kenya and Gabon on Sunday, March 23.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the incident occurred after the fan parked his car along Kisauni Road, just outside Nyayo Stadium, before heading inside to watch the match, which kicked off around 3:40 pm.
Unfortunately, when the fan exited the stadium at approximately 7 pm, he discovered that his silver Toyota IST was no longer where he had left it.
Shocked and frustrated, he immediately reported the theft to the Akila Police Station in Lang’ata.
The DCI swiftly launched an investigation into the missing vehicle, which has since been flagged as stolen. The fan has also provided all necessary documentation to prove ownership of the car.
In a separate but similar incident, police in Juja are investigating the theft of a white Toyota Axio from outside a residential home in the Matangi area, near Rurii Primary School in Kimbo.
The car’s owner, who had parked it outside his house on Saturday night, woke up on Sunday morning to find the vehicle gone.
The National Police Service (NPS) has called on anyone with information about these stolen cars to report it to their nearest police station or to contact the National Police Service directly.
The Kenya-Gabon match, which ended in a heartbreaking 2-1 loss for Kenya, was marred by several incidents of unrest. At the start of the match, rowdy fans broke down a gate and stormed Nyayo Stadium.
During the game, Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya was reportedly attacked by football fans who physically removed him from the pitch while shouting for him to “respect the President.”
Another disturbing incident during the match gained viral attention when Wangari Thiong’o, the wife of businessman Jimal Roho Safi, was robbed.
She shared the details of the theft on Instagram, revealing that her black bag had been snatched after the game.
Inside the bag were several valuables, including a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, Ksh 256,000 in cash, ear pods, a power bank, and important documents.
The series of unfortunate events at the Nyayo Stadium has left many fans shaken and concerned about their safety while attending sporting events.
