Government Responds to Viral Reports on Mass Police Recruitment

The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has denied claims that it has started the highly anticipated national police recruitment exercise.

The Commission has warned the public about a widely shared link that falsely claims to offer job opportunities within the police service.

This misleading link has been circulating across various social media platforms, including WhatsApp, in the wake of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen’s recent announcement about plans to hire 10,000 new police officers this year.

The viral posts, titled ‘National Police Service (NPS) Recruitment Job 2025,’ urged interested candidates to click the link and register for recruitment. However, NPSC has dismissed these claims as false and warned Kenyans to be cautious of online scams.

In an official statement, the Commission stated, “NPSC cautions the public against a fraudulent recruitment link that falsely advertises vacancies within the National Police Service.”

The Commission further clarified that no recruitment process is currently underway, urging Kenyans to ignore the misleading message.

They reassured the public that any legitimate recruitment exercise would be officially announced through the Commission’s verified communication channels.

Meanwhile, the government has confirmed that it plans to recruit 10,000 police officers this year following a three-year pause in hiring. According to CS Murkomen, the recruitment exercise is expected to take place within the next two months.

“We acknowledge that for the past three to four years, we have not been able to recruit new police officers. This has placed a significant burden on police stations across the country,” Murkomen explained.

He added, “I am pleased to announce that in the next financial year, and beginning within a month or two, we will commence the process of recruiting 10,000 new officers. This move is aimed at ensuring that the National Police Service has the necessary personnel to effectively maintain law and order.”
