UDA MP Hits Back at Gachagua Over Secret Recordings Claim

UDA MP Responds to Gachagua Over Secret Audio Allegations

Soy Member of Parliament David Kiplagat has strongly criticized Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over recent claims made during a Monday night television interview.

Speaking during a morning show on Tuesday, April 8, Kiplagat dismissed Gachagua’s accusations as baseless and called on him to present concrete evidence to support the serious allegations he leveled against President William Ruto.

“If Gachagua genuinely has audio recordings of President Ruto allegedly asking him to step down, he should make them public. These are serious claims, and Kenyans have a right to hear the truth,” Kiplagat stated firmly.

Gachagua stirred controversy once again when he came forward with new explosive claims against President Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration. He alleged that the head of state had tried to pressure him into resigning from his position as Deputy President by offering him a Ksh2 billion deal.

According to Gachagua, on the day his impeachment case was before the Senate, the president sent a close associate to approach him with the offer.

“That Friday, when my case was in the Senate, the president sent someone to me. He asked the officer to talk to me directly,” Gachagua alleged on Monday night.

However, MP Kiplagat, who was elected under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, demanded that Gachagua reveal the identity of the individual who allegedly delivered the president’s message.

“He claims an officer was sent to persuade him to resign. Then let him tell us who this person is so the public can fully understand what really happened,” Kiplagat said.

Kiplagat was also questioned about President Ruto’s earlier claim that Gachagua had allegedly asked for Ksh10 billion in exchange for his resignation. In response, the MP defended the president’s remarks, stating that a person holding the country’s highest office would not make such a claim lightly without some basis.

On March 31, President Ruto had accused his deputy of demanding a huge sum of money to voluntarily leave office. Gachagua, in return, refuted the allegation and came back with more counter-accusations. He alleged that he had been verbally insulted and consistently sidelined by individuals close to the president, which he claimed had contributed to the breakdown of their working relationship.

Gachagua also claimed that every time he raised concerns about the president’s leadership approach, he was met with harsh treatment and disrespect, further widening the rift between them.

Regarding the Ksh10 billion resignation demand, Gachagua argued that the president was using that narrative as a political tactic to tarnish his image and gain support from voters in the Mount Kenya region.
