Ruto and Cabinet Secretaries Announce Fresh Government Appointments
President William Ruto and several Cabinet Secretaries have made new appointments and reappointments across different government institutions, according to recent gazette notices.
The changes affect advisory committees, boards, and councils in key sectors, including security, defence, education, finance, and health.
In a gazette notice dated January 30, President Ruto reappointed Ahmed Abdi Rashid, Mary Murangi Mugo, Claire Sifuna Wanyama, and Caroline Cherono Kilisha as members of the State Corporations Advisory Committee.
The President stated that the four officials will continue serving in their roles for a fresh term of three years. Their reappointments are set to take effect on Wednesday, February 4, ensuring continuity in the committee’s advisory functions.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen also made a key appointment within his docket. He appointed Benjamin Kiprono Kuttoh as a member of the Board of the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA).
According to Murkomen’s notice, Kuttoh will serve on the board for a period of three years, with his appointment taking effect from January 30.
Meanwhile, Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya named several individuals to the Advisory Committee on Military Veterans. Those appointed include Isaac Njoroge, Hosea Abinya, Esther Wambui, Nelson Wekulo, Ashford Miriti, Joseph Kithome, Rebecca Morogo, and Rehema Athman.
The Defence CS noted that the appointments will run for one year, starting from April 2, and are aimed at strengthening support and policy guidance for military veterans.
In the finance sector, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi reappointed Anne Rimbaine Lengerded and Joseph Kipkemboi Ngetich as members of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation (KDIC).
The two will serve another three-year term, effective January 30. Mbadi also appointed James Agembe Akali as a member of the Board of Directors of the Nairobi International Financial Centre Authority, where he will serve for three years.
Co-operatives and MSMEs Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Opranya appointed George Kingori Gathogo as a member of the Board of the Financial Inclusion Fund. Gathogo’s appointment will run for a period of three years, as the government continues efforts to promote financial access for small businesses and cooperatives.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba made several appointments affecting universities and higher learning institutions. He appointed Kenneth Maena as a member of the Council of Tom Mboya University and Joseph Tuikong Rotich as a member of the Council of Koitalel Samoei University College, both for three-year terms.
Ogamba also announced that Ronald Leposo Musengi, Jacob Wangai Gitau, and Joseph Omanya Nyotumba will serve as members of the Council of Eldoret National Polytechnic for the next three years.
Additionally, the CS appointed Allan Mugambu Michael as a member of the Council of Murang’a University of Technology, and Joseph Tuikong as a member of the Council of the Open University of Kenya.
However, the Education CS also revoked the appointments of Stella Oyiego and Hamadi Musa Garashi as members of Machakos University, signalling changes in the institution’s leadership structure.
In the health sector, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale appointed Patrisio Njiru Njeru as a member of the Board of Directors of the Kenya National Public Health Institute. Duale stated that Njeru will serve on the board for a period of three years.
The latest appointments reflect ongoing adjustments within government institutions as the administration seeks to strengthen leadership, improve governance, and enhance service delivery across various sectors.
